YEAR END REVIEW - Crochet & Sewing 2013

This is the first time I make a year end review and one of the reasons is because I have new followers who might have seen a picture or something I made but have not read the post. It is also a all-in-one place to go if you are ever looking for  something and also a good way for me to put my ideas in order. 

Let's start with what I made in crochet.

It seems number 1 (number 8 is the same blanket) was the star of the year, along with number 9 and lately number 11 has got very popular. 

Let's start: 

Esta es la primera vez que hago un resumen del año y una de las razones es porque tengo nuevos seguidoras que quizás hayan visto algo que haya hecho pero no han leído la entrada. También hace una entrada donde poder ver todo en un mismo sitio y una forma de poner mis ideas en orden. 

Veamos que he hecho en Crochet. 

Parece que el numero uno ha sido la estrella del año, junto al numero 9 y últimamente el numero 11 ha sido muy popular.

My Sewing in 2013

Now turn for My Sewing:

The starts of this year from my sewing were number 1 and number 6, but number one got more attention and so I gave it the place of honour !

Ahora es el turno de Mi Costura:

Las estrellas de mi costura han sido el numero 1 y 6, pero el numero 1 tuvo mas atención así que le he concedido un lugar de honor !!

So this was my Sewing in 2013. My sewing machine has been unused since September and my hands are very much itching to get into more sewing. Each time I look at the fabric stash (lots of Tilda Fabric in it) I want to start my daughter's quilt, but sewing takes so much preparation time and space that I have not found much time lately for it and dedicated much more to crochet. 

Crochet is something I always keep on the sofa and does not need much preparation, space, it is much more spontaneous I think !

But I'm happy with my sewing so far, if I take into account that I only bought my sewing machine in November 2012, and have everything to learn yet, which is pretty exciting !!

Esta fue mi costura en 2013. Mi maquina de coser ha estado sin usar desde Septiembre y la verdad es que estoy deseando cogerla y coser mas. Cada vez que miro las telas que compre este año para hacer una colcha para mi hija (sobre todo telas Tilda) quiero empezar la quilt (o colcha) para mi hija, pero la costura lleva tanta preparación y no he encontrado el tiempo últimamente así que he dedicado mucho mas tiempo al ganchillo.

El ganchillo es algo que siempre tengo a mano en el sofa, y lo puedo coger en cualquier momento, no necesita mucha preparación. 
Pero estoy contenta con mi costura también, sobre todo teniendo en cuenta que compre mi maquina en noviembre 2012, y aun me queda todo por aprender, lo que es muy emocionante !!

Now I wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR 2014 full of health as I believe with health around us we can drive the rest !!

Ahora solo me queda desearos un MUY FELIZ AÑO 2014 lleno de salud, ya que creo que teniendo salud podemos conducir nuestra vida mejor !!

How are the celebrations going so far ?

We are now in France where we will celebrate the New Year and I'm getting a lot of hook time and so I did not manage to finish my daughter's hat at home but I made it here in 1 hour flat ! 

Here is the end result. 

As I mentioned in Instagram I did not follow any pattern for the hat or flower but if a few of you want the pattern I will write it.
It is really just a simple hat pattern and the flower I made it up as I went too. . .

Como van las celebraciones ?
Nosotros estamos en Francia donde celebraremos la NocheVieja con la familia de mi marido y la verdad es que estoy teniendo muchísimo tiempo para hacer ganchillo. 
No pude terminar el nuevo gorrito de mi hija en casa (allí siempre tengo mucho mas que hacer) pero en cuanto llegue a casa de mis suegros lo hice en 1 hora !!
Aqui tenéis el resultado. 
Como mencione en Instagram, no he seguido ningún patrón para el gorrito o la flor pero si unas cuantas me lo pedis pues escribiré el patron. 
Realmente es un patron simple de gorrito, y la flor me la fui inventando segun la iba haciendo tambien. . . 

 This is the Swishy Scarf like mine, but in lilac and shorter, for my daughter too.

Esta es la Bufanda Swishy, como la mia, pero en lila y mas corta, para mi hija. 

This is my new WIP. I'm making this blanket again but this time in 100% Merino Wool, and this time it will be given as a gift for a baby that will be born any minute now (my cousin's wife is due in January). 

Este es mi nuevo proyecto. Estoy haciendo esta manta de nuevo pero esta vez en Lana Merino 100%, y esta vez será un regalo para un bebe que va a nacer en cualquier momento (la mujer de mi primo sale de cuentas en Enero)

 and this is something lots of you are waiting for. . .

y esto es algo que muchas estáis esperando . . . 

I'm writing the pattern for the cable mittens, and for that I'm making myself new ones in a gorgeous aubergine colour. 

All the yarn in this post is Woolly DMC , extra soft merino 100% . . . I'm testing this yarn at the moment. 

I will tell you more about it in the new year. . .

In a couple of days I will post also my year end review, don't miss it !

Estoy escribiendo el patron para los mitones a punto de cable y para ello me estoy haciendo unos nuevos en un precioso color berenjena. 

Toda la lana que habéis visto en esta entrada es Woolly DMC, 100% merino extra suave . . . estoy probando esta lana con todos estos proyectos. 
Os contare mas en el nuevo año . . .

In Dublin's Fair City - Part 2 // En Dublin - parte 2

Hello dears ! 

I cant believe Christmas is already gone this year . . . (sigh)

I hope you had a lovely one !

As promised a few days ago in this post I want to take you window shopping in Dublin. 

If you have been reading my blog for a while you might already know that I lived in Dublin for 7 years and I'm still linked to Ireland and Dublin through my job, and so I travel to Dublin at least twice a year. 

I went there on the last week of November and the time could not have been perfect ! 

I love Dublin at this time of the year with all the Christmas lighting on and all the decorations. 

To be honest, sometimes a bit over the top in some of the shops and cafes, but I do love the energy of this city at any time of the year and the atmosphere at this time is just fabulous.

No me puedo creer que ya haya pasado el día de Navidad . . . (suspiro)

Como os prometi hace unos días en esta entrada os llevo de escaparates por Dublin. 

Aquellas que me seguis de hace tiempo sabréis que vivi en Dublin durante 7 años y aun sigo conectada a Irlanda y Dublin por mi trabajo, así que normalmente viajo a Dublin al menos 2 veces al año. 

Esta vez me toco ir la ultima semana de Noviembre y el momento no podía haber sido mejor !

Me encanta Dublin en esta epoca del año con las luces de Navidad ya encendidas y toda la ciudad decorada. Para decir la verdad un poco demasiado y un poco pronto, sobre todo en algunas tiendas y cafeterías, pero me encanta la energía de esta ciudad en cualquier época del año y el ambiente en esta época es fabuloso. 

Firstly, let me apologise for the quality of the images. The lighting was not the best and also my new phone is not great for taking pictures, something I have lately learnt :-(

Ok, here we go !!

Primero queria disculparme por la mala calidad de las imágenes. La iluminación no era perfecta para tomar fotos y mi nuevo móvil no es muy bueno para hacer fotografía, algo que acabo de comprobar :-(

Si os interesa saber mas de Dublin, ya os enseñe una parte de Dublin en esta entrada de Junio. 

Bueno, vamos alla!

 My hotel was situated in O'Connell Street, one of the main and widest streets in Dublin city. This is the north side of the city (the reference in Dublin for north and south is the River Liffey: anything north from the river is the north of Dublin City and from the River to the south is the south of Dublin city)

Mi hotel estaba situado esta vez en O'Connell Street, una de las calles principales de Dublin y una de las mas anchas. Esto es el norte de la ciudad (la referencia en Dublin para norte y sur es el rio Liffey: todo lo que este al norte del rio es Dublin Norte y todo lo que este al sur es Dublin sur)

The now famous Spire in O'Connell Street. The pictures were taken at around 2pm and it was already getting dark, so I was rushing as I only had 2 hours of daylight left to take pictures. (However in summer there is plenty of daylight to as nearly 22hrs in the evening!) 

Esto es el famoso Spire en O'Connell Street. Las fotos fueron hechas alrededor de las 2 de la tarde y ya estaba anocheciendo asi que me tenia que dar prisa porque solo tenia 2 horas de luz para hacer fotos. (Sin embargo en verano anochece muy tarde, hay luz del día hasta casi las 10 de la noche!)

And here is the man that gives name to the street Mr.Daniel O'Connell, an Irish political leader in the first half of the 19th century. 

Aquí esta el hombre que da nombre a la calle, Daniel O'Connell, líder político irlandés de la primera mitad del s.XIX. 

I then proceeded towards the south part of the city and Grafton Street (where lots of shops are)

And look what I found ! CK is opening a store bang in the centre of Dublin !! (up to know there was 1 CK store in a shopping centre out of town and another in an outlet shopping centre, also out of Dublin city). 

But it was not open as yet so this is another visit I will have to leave for my next trip to Dublin (we do have a CK store in Madrid but it is only a concession inside a department store and so it is small) 

Luego segui hacia el sur de la ciudad hasta Grafton Street (donde hay muchas tiendas) y mirad lo que encontré ! Cath Kidston va a abrir una tienda en el centro de Dublin !! (hasta ahora solo había una en un centro comercial fuera de Dublin y otro en uno de esos centros comerciales de outlet, también fuera de la ciudad)

Pero como ponía que abrira proximamente, tendre que dejar la visita para mi próximo viaje a Dublin. (aunque tenemos una en Madrid esta dentro de unos grandes almacenes y es pequeña y limitada en los productos que tienen, aunque para el tamaño la verdad es que esta muy bien)

This is Grafton Street, and I had a lovely lunch at the M&S restaurant. I needed to recharge my energy before continuing my window shopping (and I did buy some things for the kids for Christmas at M&S, things are are lovely and well prices and I cannot get in Madrid, just different !)

Dublin has a great selection of good restaurants and the food is often gorgeous even at small cafes, etc

Esta es Grafton Street, comi en el restaurante de M&S y la verdad estaba buenísimo ! La verdad es que en Dublin se come muy bien y hay para todos los presupuestos y gustos. Recargue mis energias antes de continuar por las tiendas (compre algunas cosas en M&S para los niños, cosas de Navidad que tienen muy buen precio y que no puedo conseguir en Madrid, cosas simplemente diferentes!)

Before it got dark I still had time to take some pictures at the most impressive windows display I have ever seen in my life (or am I too easily impressed ??, maybe as well)

Antes de que anocheciera aun tuve tiempo de hacer fotos a la tienda con los escaparates mas impresionantes que nunca he visto (o igual es que soy fácilmente impresionable ?? - puede ser )

BROWN THOMAS is one of the biggest department stores in Dublin and there you can find all the designer clothes, and do very high quality (=expensive) shopping ,ha,ha. . . and so I did not go inside (this time) although it is a delight to just see all the home selection, kitchen tools, clothing, Xmas decoration, etc, etc. . .

La tienda es BROWN THOMAS y son los grandes almacenes por excelencia en Irlanda y Dublin  y allí se pueden encontrar ropa de accesorios de diseño, y hacer compras de la mas alta calidad (= cara), ja,ja . . . así que yo no entre en esta ocasión , aunque es una delicia solo verlo por dentro, la sección de hogar, los utensilios y cacharros de cocina, la ropa, las decoraciones navideñas, etc,etc. . .

Estos son los escaparates . . . 

And now . . . one of my favourite EVER shops in the whole world !! Again, worth visiting even if you don't buy anything, which I often do. I cannot go to Dublin and not go into Avoca. . . 

Y ahora. . . una de mis tiendas favoritas del mundo !! Igual que antes merece una visita aunque no compres nada, cosa que hago a menudo. No puedo ir a Dublin y no entrar a Avoca. . . 

Avoca started as a Woollen Mill and now have several shops. . . .and several cafes with 3 cookbooks. The Avoca cafes are considered amongst the finest in Dublin. You can find out more about the history of Avoca at their website. 

Avoca empezó como un molino de producción de lana e hilo y ahora tienen varias tiendas y cafés . 

La comida que se encuentra en los cafes de Avoca se consideran de la mejor de la ciudad y tienen ya 3 famosos libros de recetas.

Swishy Scarf Finished ! / Bufanda Swishy Terminada !

Hello again ! 

As promised in my yesterday's post here is a picture of the Swishy Scarf (by Nicki Trench in the Cute & Easy Crochet book) finished. 

Unfortunately you can only get the pattern buying the book which was the sole reason for me to buy the book as the rest of the projects in the book are really for those who are starting to crochet.

Como os prometi en mi entrada de ayer aquí tenemos una foto de la bufanda Swishy de Nicki Trench (del libro Cute & Easy Crochet) ya terminada. 

Por desgracia solo se puede conseguir el patrón comprando el libro y esta fue la única razón por la que me compre el libro ya que el resto de los proyectos son ideales para aquellas que están empezando a hacer ganchillo.

Sorry guys but I find it difficult to show pictures of myself, you might have seen a couple of them in my blog and the one in my profile but that is about it. 

Anyway one more day to go before Christmas !! and this is my favourite time of the year, I mean this week before Christmas, the run up to Christmas, winter, my new wood burning stove. . . hummm hot chocolate with or without marshmallows. .. hmmmm

I like the simple things, we dont do presents for adults in our household, not even between my husband and I, only children get presents and we like it that way. 

I'm happy with just getting my fave magazines 

(Country Homes and Interiors and some crafty ones . . . ) 

By the way, can somebody (specially my UK readers) tell me where on this earth I can get Simply Crochet  magazine ?? 

I was in Dublin for work and did not find it anywhere . . . my husband was in the US for work and could not find it, his flight was through Heathrow on the way out and could not get it and through Gatwick on the way back and could not get it either . . . 

Lo siento chicas pero me resulta difícil salir en las fotos, habréis visto un par de ellas en el blog y una en mi perfil pero ya esta. 

Buenoooo,  queda un dia para llegar a Navidad !! y esta es mi parte favorita del año, bueno la semana de antes de Navidad, el invierno, mi nueva estufa de leña. . . . hummmm chocolate caliente con o sin nubes (lo habeis probado el chocolate con nubes o esponjitas dulces ?? - probadlo !) 

Me gustan las cosas simples. . . en nuestra casa no hay regalos para los adultos, solo los niños. Ni siquiera entre mi marido y yo, solo para los niños y nos gusta así. . . 

Yo estoy feliz con solo tener mis revistas favoritas (Country Homes & Interiors y alguna de ganchillo o manualidades. . . )

❄ ❄ ❄ It's Winter !! ❄ ❄ ❄

Hello !! and a BIG WELCOME to all my new lovely followers 

Hola ! y una GRAN BIENVENIDA a todas mis nuevas seguidoras

How are you all ? Already stuck into the whole Christmas spirit ? I am, and I'm loving it (having 2 small children helps !). 

I've been busy . . . and I have also been in Dublin, which I will show you in a another post in a few days. 

Que tal estais ? Ya con el espíritu Navideño ? Yo si (tener 2 niños pequeños ayuda . . .)

He estado ocupada .  . .y también he estado en Dublin, que os mostrare en otra entrada en unos días. 

I also started using Instagram about a month ago and I've been posting a lot into Instagram. 

I find it great as you can just post what you are up to in 1 minute !!

También he estado usando Instagram, me registre hace cosa de 1 mes y lo uso bastante. Me gusta que puedes publicar cosas que estas haciendo en solo 1 minuto !! 

And so what have I've been posting about ?

I tidied up my crochet blankets . . . and was working on the edge of the 3rd from top but it is now a project on a side . . . 

Y que he estado publicando en Instagram ?

Pues he ordenado mis mantas . . . y estaba trabajando en el borde de la tercera manta desde arriba pero ahora ese proyecto lo he vuelto a dejar de lado . . .

I started this hat for my daughter but finally gave up on it (it is from Mollie Makes (issue 34). 

Why did I give up on it ? It is a lovely hat but I wanted something that would fit tightly to keep her warm and this was just came too loose on her. I tried to adapt the pattern and got it right but then the flowers on the brim well I did not like how it was coming along. . . .

Why ? Because either you carry the colour while you are crocheting or you crochet over and to carry it over then it gives a messy result in the inside of the hat . . .and if you crochet over it the other colour shows through, if that makes sense ? - Specially making a white hat as I was making. . .

Empece este gorrito para mi hija pero finalmente también lo he dejado (de la revista Mollie Makes (numero 34). Porque lo he dejado ? Es muy bonito pero yo quería un gorro de lana que quedara ajustado para que fuera calentito pero este le quedaba holgado. Intente adaptar el patrón y lo conseguí pero después las flores del borde, bueno no me gustaba como estaba quedando. . . 

Porque ? Porque para hacer las flores y hacer ganchillo en dos colores al mismo tiempo, bien trabajas con las dos hebras al mismo tiempo y vas llevando las hebras al mismo tiempo pero luego se ven por detrás y no me gusta o bien puedes hacer los puntos encima del color que no utilizas pero luego se ve el color a través y mas usando el blanco como yo estaba usando. 

So I will save the white yarn to make another blanket (I know. . . ) but all my last makes in crochet have been in 1 colour and I'm starting to get bored of it, I need more colours !! 

I have  also started a new scarf for myself . . . This picture below was taken at night under artificial light and so the colour was not true . . . 

Así que guardare el blanco para hacer otra manta (ya, ya lo se . . . otra) pero las ultimas cosas que he hecho han sido en un solo color y me estoy empezando a aburrir de ello, necesito colores !!

También he empezado una nueva bufanda para mi . . . la foto de abajo fue hecha por la noche, con luz artificial así que el color no es el que realmente es . . .

But this one below is the true gorgeous soft grey I have made my scarf in . . .

Pero este de aqui abajo si es el verdadero precioso gris perla en el que he hecho mi bufanda . . .

The scarf is the Swishy Scarf by Nikki Trench and I actually bought the book Cute & Easy Crochet just because of this scarf. 

By the way, I have now finished it (as soon as I can get my husband to take a picture of me wearing it I will publish it so that you can all see it finished) and I have already started one in a very soft lilac for my daughter. 

I'm under pressure to finish her scarf and hat by Christmas day as we will be going to France after that and she will badly need to be very warm in the north of France (although it is also very cold in Madrid)

But we do have blue skies in Madrid . . . this picture below was taken on Friday morning, freezing but blue open skies ! I just love it !

La bufanda es la Swishy Scarf de Nikki Trench, me he comprado el libro Cute&Easy Crochet solo por esta bufanda. 

Por cierto, ya la he terminado (cuando mi marido me pueda hacer una foto con ella puesta la publicare para que la veáis terminada) y he empezado una en un lila muy dulce y suave para mi hija. La verdad es que voy contra reloj para acabar su bufanda y gorro antes de Navidad ya que después nos vamos a Francia (aunque también hace muchísimo frío en Madrid).

Pero tenemos cielo azul . . . esta foto fue hecha el viernes por la mañana, helaba pero teníamos un cielo azul increíble ! Me encanta !

 and this picture below is one of the stalls where they sell all the traditional clay figures  for the traditional Nativity Scene. Actually did you know that in Spain this was the traditional thing to decorate  the home at Christmas ? and not the Christmas tree . . .however nowadays the Christmas tree is widely used along with the Nativity scene. 

y esta foto de abajo es de uno de los puestos de la Plaza Mayor donde venden las figuritas tradicionales del belén navideño. Sabíais que en España el belén es lo tradicional en Navidad y no el árbol .  . . sin embargo el árbol se usa hoy en día tanto o mas como el belén o nacimiento. 

 I love this part of Madrid (Plaza Mayor and surroundings) , it is soo authentic and truly Spanish, full of old wine and tapas bars and traditional taverns with very old facades . . . it is like a walk in the past. 

Me encanta esta parte de Madrid (Plaza Mayor y alrededores), es tan autentica y tan Española, lleno de tabernas tradicionales y bares de vinos con fachadas antiguas . . .es como un paseo por el pasado.

Stash Busting December : Mitones Punto Cable // Cable Mittens

Well, how are you all ? 

I have finally finished the project I was working on . . . ta-dah !! 

My first ever fingerless mittens !! 

I am so happy with them. . . they keep me warm while working on the computer, I can wear them when I am out and still pay at shops, use my mobile without having to take them off. 

They even make a gorgeous Christmas present !! 

I have wanted to make one of these since last year probably but the idea of it was daunting. 

Last month I saw these lovely, gorgeous mittens from Crejjtion and I started making them, posted about it in Instagram (do you use Instagram ?, I have recently discovered it and I'm already lost in it. . . so much inspiration in there too)

Hola ! Como estais todas ?

Por fin he terminado el proyecto en el que estaba trabajando . . . ta-da !!

Mis primeros mitones !! 

Estoy tan contenta con ellos . . .  me calientan las manos y muñecas mientras trabajo con el ordenador, puedo llevarlos puestos y pagar en las tiendas, usar mi móvil sin tener que quitarmelos. 

También pueden hacer un precioso regalo de Navidad. . . 

He querido hacer unos mitones desde el año pasado pero la idea solamente me asustaba un poco. 

Hace un mes mas o menos vi estos preciosos mitones en el blog de Crejjtion y empece a hacerlos, puse una foto de mi progreso en Instagram (usais Instagram ? , yo lo he descubierto hace poco y ya estoy perdida . . . hay tanta inspiración!)

Anyway I felt in love with those mittens but for some reason could not get the right size for me, I tried a couple of times and then saw this lovely basket interweave crochet stitch on YouTube and thought it would look just lovely on mittens. The video is in Spanish but I have also found the same or very similar stitch here which I have only discovered when I already had them finished. Although they make the mitts all in the same stitch all the way through, I wanted mine to be snugged and fit and so I varied the stitch at the wrist and also at the beginning of the fingers part. This stitch is worked in the round and so it does not have any seams. 

Bueno, el caso es que me enamore de esos mitones pero no conseguia hacer la talla correcta para mi, lo intente un par de veces y mientras tanto vi este punto de ganchillo en YouTube, llamado Punta Cesta Entrecruzado y pensé que quedaría muy bonito en unos mitones. Tambien he encontrado un tutorial en fotos, aunque este lo descubri una vez ya los tenia hechos. Estos los habian hecho todo del mismo punto  pero como yo quería los mios bien ajustados varie el punto de la muñeca y tambien en el comienzo de los dedos. Este punto se trabaja en redondo así que no lleva costuras.

My mittens are crocheted from bottom to top  although they do have a knitted look, don't they ? 

Mis mitones están hechos completamente a ganchillo o crochet aunque parezcan tejidos a dos agujas verdad ?
