Cath Kidston Inspired Easter Eggs

Hi all,

We have been crafting with our children a couple of hours ago and me and my daughter made this.

Esta tarde hemos hecho manualidades con los peques y he hecho esto con mi hija.

The inspiration has come from this gorgeous blog, she makes such lovely things. . . 

La inspiración ha venido de este precioso blog, ella hace cosas preciosas . . .

Of course I don't have her patience and I have two small kids and my daughter was very happy to help me paint the egg white, dry it with a hairdryer, etc. . . 

Por supuesto yo no tengo la paciencia que tiene ella y ademas tengo 2 niños pequeños y mi hija estaba muy contenta de ayudarme a pintar el huevo blando y secarlo con un secador de pelo. . .

We only did one as a sample as again it takes a lot of time (which I don't have at the moment) to make the wholes in the eggs without breaking them, blow the eggs (yuuk !) and wash them. 

Solo hemos hecho uno como ejemplo, por la misma razón. Lleva muuuucho tiempo hacer los agujeritos en los huevos sin romperlos, soplar en los huevos para vaciarlos (que asco !!) y lavarlos.

I prepared 2, one for my daughter and one for my son. My son is two and there was more paint in his face and hands than on the egg itself. Paint all over the kitchen table, everywhere, but it was all worth it. 

He preparado 2, uno para mi hija y otro para mi hijo. Mi hijo tiene 2 añitos y había mas pintura en su cara y manos que en el huevo. Pintura por toda la mesa de la cocina, por todos los sitios, pero ha merecido la pena.

I used these Mala paints from Ikea as they are child friendly and so of course the result was not as good as in the inspirational blog. . . 

He usado pintura Mala de Ikea ya que es para niños y claro el resultado no es tan bueno como el del blog en el que me inspirado . . .

I hope you like it and give it a try . . . I'm proof that it can be done, I'm the clumsiest person when it comes to painting, and it does look like a CK rose, well, it does to me. And if it does not, just close your eyes a little bit . . . now you can see the rose !

Espero que os animeis a intentarlo . . .yo soy prueba de que se puede hacer, soy la persona mas torpe en lo que se refiere a pintura, pero si que me ha salido como una rosa de Cath Kidston, bueno a mi me lo parece. Y si no la ves, entrecierra los ojos un poquito, ahora . . . si, la ves ?

Sweet Pink & Green Floral Bunting

Hello !

I have finished the bunting I mentioned here and that it was my first custom order from a friend who had to make a gift for a christening this weekend.

He terminado el banderin que mencione aquí y que es mi primer pedido de una amiga que necesitaba hacer un regalo para un bautizo este fin de semana.

The baby this bunting will be going to has been named Candela. . .

El bebe para el que es este banderin se llama Candela . . .

The fabrics are some I had bought for my own daugther's bunting, very romantic and feminine. . . .

Las telas son algunas que ya use para el banderín de mi hija, muy románticas y femeninas . . . 

 The fabrics are all from the Lecien Floral Collection, I bought them last year so they are probably from the 2012 collection. . .

Las telas son todas de la Lecien Florar Collection, las compre el año pasado así que probablemente son de la colección de 2012 . . .

In very soft green, pinks and fuchsia . . .

En un verde muy suave, rosas y fucsias . . .

The applique letters and heart are made from felt. . .

Las aplicaciones son de fieltro . . .

This friend that needed this bunting has taken up crochet, and she is already 'hooked'  to it !  (I had warned her crochet is addictive) She is blaming me for staying up late at night just to find her way into making her first pieces. I'm very impressed, she only bought her first hook and yarn on Monday and today she came home with the top of a hat done and a granny square, and she even changed colours !!

I am happy I got her into this, at least I won't be the 'odd' one in my near circle . . .

Esta amiga que me encargo el banderín acaba de empezar a hacer ganchillo y ya que esta 'enganchada' , he, he, ya le avise que el ganchillo era adictivo. Hoy me decía que su falta de sueño era culpa mía que la había metido en esto y se ha quedado las dos ultimas noches hasta tarde intentando sus primeros pasos en el ganchillo. Estoy muy impresionada ya que solo compro su primera aguja y lana el lunes y hoy ha venido a casa con el comienzo de un gorrito, así que un circulo prefecto y también se ha atrevido con un cuadrado granny, e incluso ha cambiado colores !!

Estoy contenta de que se haya enganchado, ya no seré la rarita en mis círculos cercanos . . .

As for me, my lack of sleep and tiredness these days is not due to crochet but to my children who are waking up. If Marc sleeps through the night (which is rare lately as he is teething again, must be the last ones as he is already 2), then that night is Sofia who wakes up . . .she has just turned 5 and she is starting to have nightmares . . . Also they are both early birds . . . and are up most days at 6.30 am,  7 at the latest . . . weekends or holidays is not a word they understand yet . . .

Yo no puedo culpar al ganchillo de mi falta de sueno, sino a mis peques que se despiertan por la noche.
Si Marc duerme del tirón (lo que es raro últimamente ya que esta echando algún diente, debe ser las muelas de los 2 años), es Sofia la que se despierta . . . acaba de cumplir 5 y esta empezando con las pesadillas . . . luego en general son tempraneros y están despiertos casi siempre a las 6.30 am, las 7am como muy tarde . . . fin de semana o días de fiesta no son palabras que entiendan aun . . .

First Patchwork Project - part 1

Hi all,

I have finally come around making my first 'proper' patchwork project. Although it is still at the first stage. It will be a cushion for my daughter but I still have to decide about the borders and how to go about the rest of it.

Finalmente estoy haciendo mi primer proyecto de patchwork de verdad. Aunque solo tengo el principio hecho, será un cojín para mi hija y aun tengo que decidir que bordes voy a poner y como ensamblar el resto.

My first challenge was how to find that 'scant' 1/4' seam allowance all the quilters in blogland were talking about.

Mi primer reto fue como encontrar ese 'margen de 1/4 de pulgada o 6mm del que todas las expertas hablan, pero en mi maquina.

I asked in the blog Sew Many Ways, Friday's Ask the world a question and also my friend Christine from Beanniequilts for advise as she has made a few lovely quilts already. They were so nice and told me different ways to find the scant 1/4' seam allowance in my sewing machine.

Pregunte en el blog de Sew Many Ways, los viernes tienen una cosa en el blog llamada 'Lanza al mundo una pregunta' , donde puedes preguntar cualquier cosa, ese o no relacionada con costura y también pregunte a mi amiga Christine del blog Beanniequilts, ya que ella ya ha hecho varias quilts de patchwork. Todas fueron super amables y me dijeron varias formas de encontrar ese margen de 6mm en mi maquina.

It is not perfect . . .I know. Look at the matching seams at the bottom right hand corner . . .see it ??
They don't match perfectly but I am happy enough and was scared to ruin the fabric by undoing the stitching. And taking into account that I bought my first 'real' sewing machine back in November, well , I'm happy with this result for this first project.

No esta perfecto . . . lo se. Mirad la costura de abajo a la derecha . . . lo veis ?? No coinciden perfectamente, pero la verdad es que me daba miedo que se rompiera la tela al descoserla y pense que bueno, era mi primer patchwork y no esta tan mal.

These are part of the fabrics I order back in January from Sew Deerly Loved, shown here. These were the charm pack from the collection 'The Simple Life'.

Las telas, son las que pedi en Enero a la tienda Sew Deerly Loved, las podeis ver aqui. Estas son las que venían en el pack de cupones de diferentes telas de una misma colección al que llaman Charm Pack.

Lots of us seem to be using this collection these days. I first saw the fabrics at the lovely blog from Helen Phillips, here. And I had to order them, I just loved them.

Parece que muchas de nosotras esta utilizando telas de esta colección. Primero vi las telas en el precioso blog de Helen Phillips, aquí.

Once I had ordered them I then saw these cute projects at another lovely blog called, Happy Little Cottage, here  and here. .

Cuando ya los habia pedido vi estos bonitos proyectos en otro bonito blog llamado Happy Little Cottage, aquí y aquí.

And just yesterday saw the last post from another of my favourite blogs, My Rose Valley and Annette was using a couple of fabrics from this collection, here.

Y justo ayer vi en la ultima entrada de otro de mis blogs favoritos My Rose Valley, que Annette también uso un par de telas de esta colección para su ultima quilt, aquí.

Now I am unsure, of what to use at the borders, I am hesitating between 2 options:
Ahora mi duda es que usar para los bordes y estoy dudando entre 2 opciones:

This one . . . with little flowers
Esta ....con florecitas

or this one . . .with a dotty fabric
o esta  . . . con lunarcitos

I really get lost in this, I feel so unexperienced in matching fabrics for patchwork and quilting. When I see some quilts I love, I always think I would have never put those fabrics together, but yet they do work wonderfully in the end. . . does this happen to you too ? SeeI'm also unsure of the stripy fabric there . . . 

Realmente me siento perdida, y me siento tan novata en esto de poner las telas juntas . . . Cuando veo quilts de patchwork que me encantan siempre pienso que yo nunca hubiera puesto esa combinación así, pero sin embargo quedan fenomenal juntas . . . os pasa a vosotras también ? Tampoco estoy segura de la tela de rayitas rosa . . .

Then when I went yesterday to the local shop to buy the stripy fabric shown above, I saw this lovely cotton yarn and could not resist, so I bought it.

Y ayer cuando fue a la mercería local a comprar la tela de rayas de arriba vi esta lana de algodón y me encanto, no me pude resistir y la compre.

It was 3 Euros for a 50 grs skein but they have a permanent offer of 4x3 so I bought another in white and then 2 of the yarns I'm using in my daughters blanket , shown here.

Me costo 3 Euros por una madeja de 50 grs pero como tienen una oferta permanente de 4x3 compre otra en blanco y 2 madejas de lana para la manta de mi hija, podéis verla aquí.

When I got home and arranged my fabrics I realised that this fabric I had also ordered back in January goes perfectly with the cotton yarn I had just bought !! I got so excited about this . . .I have an idea of what to make with it but have to think about it and make the right choice as I love that fabric so much I want to make good use of it. I really want to find something where I can mix fabric and crochet . . .

Cuando llegue a casa y me puse a colocar las telas vi que esta tela que  tambien había comprado en Enero combina perfectamente con el hilo de algodón que acababa de comprar ! Y me puse muy contenta. . . tengo una ligera idea de que hacer con ello pero lo quiero pensar bien porque me encanta la tela y no tengo mucha. Me gustaría hacer algo en lo que pueda mezclar costura y ganchillo . . .

I'm also working on my first custom order from a friend. She needs to make a gift for a christening at Easter and insetad of buying s gift at a show, she asked me to make one of my personalised buntings for her ! It will be in soft pinks and greens, very girly and feminine. I will show it this week once is finished.

También estoy trabajando en mi primer pedido, de una amiga. Necesita hacer un regalo para un bautizo el fin de semana que viene, pero en lugar de comprar el regalo me ha pedido que le haga uno de mis banderines personalizados ! Será mi clásico, en verdes y rosas pastel, muy femenino. Os lo enseñare esta semana cuando lo termine.

Forest Bunting & Cushion Finished !

Hello ! 

I'm so happy I was able to finish this projects during this long weekend. 

This is very special present for a very special baby that was born 2 weeks ago in La Reunion. He is our dear nephew that came to the world with a few serious complications for his mummy. Happily they are all ok now, together and at home.

Estoy tan contenta de haber podido terminar estos proyectos durante el fin de semana. 

Es un regalo muy especial para un bebe muy especial que nació hace 2 semanas en La Reunion. Es nuestro sobrino y vino al mundo con alguna complicación seria para su mama. Felizmente ahora están bien los dos, juntos y en casa. 

I hope they like what I have made for his new room. When I asked his parents what color would they like something I would handmade for him, the sent a picture of a neutral kind of dark cream and with an owl kind of embroidered in a dark threat.  

And so I set myself into designing something that would please them. 

Espero que les guste lo que he hecho para su nueva habitación. Cuando pregunte a sus padres que color querían para el detalle hecho a mano, me enviaron una foto con una colcha de cuna en un color tostado y con un buho bordado en hilo marrón.

Así que me puse en marcha para diseñar algo que pienso les va a gustar. 

The owl and the cushion, everything is my own design. As always, there is a heart and a bunting somewhere as I love those two things. 

This technique is just appliqué and not free hand machine embroidery. . .which I will try one day soon.

El buho y el cojín, todo es mi propio diseño. Como siempre, hay un corazón y un banderín en alguna parte ya que me encantan esas dos cosas.  

La tecnica es simplemente la de aplicaciones a maquina, no he usado la de bordado de brazo libre creo que se llama, pero tengo muchas ganas de probar pronto. . . 

I have never, ever before used orange, the result is quite sweet and calm I think. . . 

Nunca antes había usado naranja, pero el resultado es bastante dulce y transmite calma, creo . . .

For the tree and green parts of the bunting I have used the same Ikea fabric as I used for this bunting, it looks quite different doesn't it ? And the main fabric for both the cushion and bunting is also a plain fabric from Ikea I got months ago. 

Para el árbol he usado la misma tela de Ikea que use para este banderín, que diferente parece, verdad ? Y la tela principal usada en el cojín y el banderín es una tela lisa de Ikea que compre hace meses.

Stash Busting and lots going on . . .

I will try to keep this post short which is a challenge for me.
This is what I'm up to these days . . .

Intentare mantener esta entrada lo mas corta posible, lo que para mi es un reto.
Esto es lo que me traigo entre manos últimamente . . .

Remember this bunting I was making ?? Well, I had to make it again from scratch as my husband did not think the letter sewing was right. . . .can you believe that ?? - and I wanted to give it a rustic edging . . . but because it is for his nephew who was born last week, I consented and made it again. Still not finished but I show you a quick sneak peek into it and the matching cushion. 

Recordais este banderín que estaba haciendo ?? bien pues lo he tenido que hacer de nuevo porque a mi marido no le gustaba ese borde rústico al coser las letras. . . os lo podéis creer ?? - como es para su sobrino que nació la semana pasada esta vez he accedido y he repetido el banderin. Aun esta por coser el biés así que os enseño un cachito solo del proyecto y el cojín a juego que estoy haciendo.

And now my stash busting which is quite poor lately. I only get about 15-20 mins per day to crochet, but if you remember this blanket the last time I showed it here it now has 4 more rows of 15 squares each and I also added a side row as it was too narrow. 
So that makes it 60 more squares I have made in a little over a month !!  Far from being finished though. . . 

Y ahora mi contribución al Reto Fuera Lanas 2013 que ha sido bastante pobre ultimamente. Solo dispongo de unos 15-20 minutos al dia para hacer ganchillo, pero si recordais la ultima vez que os enseñe esta manta. . . ahora tiene 4 filas mas y una mas en el lateral. Cada fila tiene 15 cuadrados así que he hecho 60 cuadrados en un poco mas de un mes !! Aunque esta lejos de estar terminada . .

An this (below) is something I leave you to guess as I will be making a post about it very soon . . 

Y esto (abajo) es algo que os dejo adivinar ya que haré una entrada sobre ello muy pronto . . .

As for now that's all, I'm off to organize my 5 year old little princess birthday party, she was born on Paddys Day (11 days before due date), would you believe ?? (my husband and I met in Dublin for the first time and lived in Ireland for 7 years) 

We will be also celebrating Father's Day as it is next Tuesday in Spain. 

Bueno, pues eso es todo, por otra parte me queda organizar la fiesta de cumpleaños de mi princesa, nació el día de San Patricio (patrón de Irlanda), os lo podéis creer ? Para nosotros es una coincidencia ya que mi marido y yo nos conocimos en Dublin y vivimos allí 7 años)

Hello, hello ! 

Today I want to share with you the last package I got in the mail. My birthday was last month and part of my present  have been this 3 craft books.

Hoy quiero compartir con vosotras el ultimo paquete que recibí en el correo. Mi cumpleaños fue el mes pasado y parte de mi regalo fueron estos 3 libros. 

The first book is The Crochet Answer Book by Edie Eckman. I really wanted to have a crochet reference book and after reading lots of opinions of other buyers I finally chose this one. It is unbelievably small, but I'm very happy with it as it really is a good reference book. El primer libro es The Crochet Answer Book (El Libro de Respuestas sobre Ganchillo más o menos sería la traducción) de Edie Eckman. Quería tener un libro de referencia de ganchillo y después de leer muchas opiniones de otras lectoras finalmente me decante por este. Es increíblemente pequeño pero estoy muy contenta de haberlo comprado ya que es muy buena fuente de referencia. 

The second book is Stitch by Cath Kidston which I chose as I wanted to have some of her classic designs in the form of crosstitch charts. I bought the smaller version of the book as the content is the same as the standard version but the price is half. 

El segundo libro (Stitch) es este de Cath Kidston, me decante por este porque queria tener algunos de los gráficos en punto de cruz, de sus diseños clásicos. Me compre la versión mas pequeña en tamaño porque era la mitad de precio que el libro 'normal' y el contenido es el mismo. 

The third book is Crochet Borders, again by Edie Eckman . I really needed a book like this as I have to put borders on to this and this blanket when they are finished. I like the book as it has the written pattern for each border, the graph and also a picture. 

El tercer libro es Crochet Borders (Bordes de Ganchillo), de nuevo de Edie Eckman. Necesitaba un libro como este ya que tengo que poner remates a esta y esta manta cuando las termine. Me gusta el libro porque tiene para cada diseño el patrón escrito, el grafico y la foto. 

The mug in the picture below is another of my presents, Cath Kidston mugs (a set of 4) that I have been wanting for a loooong time, but that I considered more of a treat than a 'real' need now I use the box where they came for my current crochet project. . . 

La taza que veis abajo es otro de mis regalos, tazas de Cath Kidston (un juego de 4) que he querido durante muuucho tiempo, pero que consideraba mas un capricho que una necesidad. Ahora uso la caja donde venían para guardar el proyecto de ganchillo con el que estoy en esos momentos.

Some crochet I have been doing lately, just doing a little progress in this blanket for the Stash-Buster Challenge 2013. 

Aqui algo de ganchillo que estado haciendo últimamente, solo he progresado un poquito en esta manta para el Reto Fuera-Lanas 2013.

Some granny flowers here. I have progressed a couple or three rows, I will probably show the progress soon. 

Algunas flores para la manta. He progresado un par de lineas o tres, probablemente enseñare el progreso pronto.

Mystery Project - Finished !

Finally I can show you what I made with the oilcloth I received last week on the mail.

Finalmente os puedo enseñar lo que he hecho con la tela plastificada que recibí en el correo la semana pasada.

This is it, a laptop sleeve cover. Actually, for my new Macbook. 

Es esto, una funda para mi portátil. Bueno, para mi nuevo Macbook.

I'm not 100% happy with the result but I think I got myself into a quite difficult task for a first time sewing oilcloth and even lining the case ! So I am proud of what I made but I think I should have tried this first just with normal fabric. The lining  is a cotton fabric in fuchsia with little white dots. 

No estoy 100% contenta con el resultado pero creo que me metí en un proyecto difícil para ser la primera vez que cosía con este tipo de tela, y encima va forrada por dentro. Le he puesto un forro en fucsia con lunarcitos blancos.

but at least it is presentable, isn't it ?

Perp al menos esta presentable no ?

I used this video as a tutorial for making it, again it is only in Spanish but I think the video itself without the sound is quite self-explanatory.

The measures she gives are for an iPad, but if anyone wants to make this for a Macbook 13" I can tell you the measures I used.
