Barcelona . . .strawberry snack and other simple things in life

Hello !! 

Last week I was in Barcelona !! and although I was there for work, the hotel were I stayed happened to be in a street were there are a few craft shops. In fact when I came back in the train and walked to the hotel I stumbled upon this dream shop, full of gorgeous fabrics, amazing yarns and they also do quilting and patchwork classes. 

I got chatting to one of the ladies, got a couple of Tilda fabrics and a couple of trims (I still have not taken pictures of them . . . sorry!) and asked if I could take pictures of the shop for my blog. They were lovely and said it was no problem.

The shop is called Oyambre and it is in Roger de Lluria,97

La semana pasada estuve en Barcelona !! aunque el viaje era de trabajo el hotel donde me hospedaba esta vez estaba justo en una calle donde hay varias tiendas de manualidades, telas, lanas, etc. Cuando volvía al hotel desde la estación de tren encontré esta tienda de ensueño llena de telas preciosas, lanas maravillosas de importación y dos áreas para clases de patchwork. 

Me puse a hablar con una de las tenderas, compre un par de telas Tilda y unas cintas (lo siento no he tomado fotos de ellas ) y le pregunte si podía hacer fotos de la tienda para mi blog. Fueron muy amables y me dijeron que si. 

La tienda se llama Oyambre y esta en Roger de Lluria, 97

And this picture below shows the area where customers just can sit and crochet or knit . . . glorious !

Aqui la zona donde los clientes se pueden sentar a hacer crochet o tejer . . . me encanta !

Down the street from this shop a around number 7 there are also a couple more fabric shops called Ribes & Casals (which we also have in Madrid) and Textiles Dona.

Being honest I knew these 2 shops were there as I have been going to Barcelona at least once a year for the last 10 years (at least) and had seen these shops before.

For yarns there are 2 lovely shops I know in Barcelona:

Llanes Globo - located at Passeig Sant Joan crossing Carrer Aussias Marc.
Merceria Creativa - at Aussias Marc with Roger de Flor where they sell Katia yarns (a well known brand in Spain).

And the only pictures I could take of Barcelona were actually as I was crossing the Passeig de Gracia to take the Metro on the way to work.

Mas abajo en la misma calle, por le numero 7 o así hay un par de tiendas mas, aunque tienen mas telas que otras cosas, son: Ribes & Casals (que también tenemos en Madrid) y Textiles Dona.

Para decir la verdad conocía estas 2 tiendas de otros viajes a Barcelona ya que suelo ir por trabajo unas 2 veces al año desde hace al menos 10 años.

Para lanas hay dos tiendas por las que pase:

Llanes Globo - en Passeig Sant Joan con Aussias Marc
y
Merceria Cretiva- en Aussias Marc con Roger de Flot. Aqui venden lanas Katia (una marca conocida en España)

Las únicas fotos que tome de Barcelona fueron al cruzar Paseo de Gracia para coger el metro e ir a trabajar.

This is the 'mood-board' for the next project I will be working on. I got this lovely Riley Blake fabric at my local store here where I live. I will hopefully be able to show you what I made with it next week.

Esto de abajo es los materiales que usare en mi próximo proyecto. Compre esta bonita tela de Riley Blake en la tienda de manualidades local. Espero poder enseñaros lo que he hecho con ella la semana que viene.

Life is busy at home at the moment with work trips, school finishing 1 hour earlier during June, and finishing off for the summer break in 1 weeks and 2 days time. We have also been very busy going to children birthdays (from school) and leaves me little or no time for my blog and crafts.

But today we took a little break and went to my parents place in the country, the only place where we really switch off as there is no internet, and little to do other than potter around and when the pool is ready, go for a splash !! 

It was bliss to see my 2 and a half years old boy picking strawberries from my parents little crop. 
He was actually preparing his 'merienda' (afternoon snack) . . . 

Las cosas por casa son un poco una locura con viajes de trabajo, el cole en horario de verano, ahora salen una hora antes durante el mes de Junio, el fin del cole en una semana y dos días. . .También estamos teniendo un boom de cumpleaños de amiguitas de mi hija,  lo cual me deja muy poco o nada de tiempo para mi blog o mis manualidades.

Pero hoy nos hemos dado un respiro y fuimos a la casa que tienen mis padres en el campo, el único sitio donde podemos desconectar un poco, empezando porque no hay internet y poco que hacer mas que relajarse y cuando la piscina este lista, darse un chapuzon !!

Ha sido una delicia ver a mi peque de 2 años y medio cogiendo fresas de la pequeña huerta de mis padres. Se estaba preparando la merienda ! . . .

And his little harvest in his little basket, isn't it cute and simple but most enjoyable ??

Doll's Memory Quilt - Finished!

Hello everyone !! 

Hola a todas !!



Who was going to tell me when I wrote this that I was going to finish my first own quilt (although mini and only for dolls) just 4 months after I would finish my own hand quilted quilt !

The final push to make this came when I saw this wonderful quilt from Nana's Company (she inspires me sooo much). 

I hand quilted it and I have enjoyed it soo much, I loved it!

Quien me iba a decir a me cuando escribí esto que 4 meses después iba  a hacer mi propia colcha (aunque sea miniatura y para muñecas solo) acolchada a mano !!

El empuje final me lo dio el ver esta maravillosa colchita de muñecas de Nana's Company (me inspira tanto su blog . . .)

Como he dicho antes la acolche a mano y me ha encantado la experiencia !!

I want this quilt to be a treasure for my daughter and so it has little gorgeous details in it. 

Like her name embroidered or stitched in the corner. Now the beautiful part of this simple embroidery
is that is my daughter's own hand writing. She's just turned 5 and starting to write. I asked her to write her name and age onto a piece of paper and also I took a little flower drawing she had made the same day. 

Queria que esta colcha fuera algo especial y un tesoro para mi hija así que tiene preciosos detalles.

Como su nombre bordado en una esquina. La parte bonita de esto es que este simple bordado es la letra de mi hija. Acaba de hacer 5 añitos y esta empezando a escribir. La pedí que me escribiera su nombre y su edad en un trocito de papel y luego tome también una flor que ella había dibujado ese mismo día.

I transfered her writing and drawing on to plain white fabric and them stitched over it. Now, that little rectangle will be a memory forever of her handwriting at the age of 5 and that her mummy's stitching. 

Transferi su escritura y dibujo a tela blanca y repase con hilo y aguja. Ahora ese pequeño rectángulo
sera un recuerdo de su escritura con 5 años y el bordado de su mama.

Then I also went for it and labelled it with the same technique, but this time I copied my blog name from my own blog and stitched it with the date when I made the quilt. This way I will have a memory that one day I had a blog, in 30 year's time , God only knows where or what blogs will be. . . 

Tenia ilusión por poner etiqueta y lo hice con la misma técnica, esta vez copie el nombre de mi blog y los borde, incluyendo el mes en el que hice la colcha. Esto será un recuerdo de que un día tuve un blog, dentro de 30 años , quien saber donde o lo que serán los blogs ? . . .

I hope everyone had a lovely week and are looking forward to the weekend as much as I am. Weekends is when I can get some crafty time, really

Just wanted to share with you what I have been doing in the last 2 weeks. . .

Espero que hayáis tenido todas una buena semana y deseando ya que llegue el fin de semana, tanto como yo lo deseo. Los fines de semana es cuando puedo hacer mas cosas de labores, etc

Solo queria compartir con vosotras lo que he estado haciendo las 2 ultimas semanas . . . 

About two months ago I order some Japanese fabrics from Etsy and two weeks ago I got the chance to play with them and mix them with my own stash. . .

Hace unos dos meses pedí telas Japonesas en Etsy y hace dos semanas tuve la oportunidad de jugar un poquito con ellas y mezclarlas con las telas que ya tenia . . .

I am making a dolls quilt for my daughter's doll. It is a small project that will help me learn more about the process of making quilts and patchwork. 

I am now in the process of hand-quilting it so I guess it wont be ready until after next week at least. 

Estoy haciendo una colcha para las muñecas de mi hija. Es un proyecto pequeño que me ayudara a mejorar en el proceso de hacer colchas y patchwork. 

Estoy haciendo el acolchado a mano así que no creo que la termine antes de otras dos semanas, veremos . . . 

In the middle of it all, I made this pin-cushion, which I showed you earlier this week and also posted a tutorial. 

En el medio de esto, hice este alfiletero que os enseñe a principios de esta semana y tambien os puse un tutorial de como hacerlo. 

I increased my yarn stash (just a little bit) and this time with brighter colors that are not really the colors I would normally go for but I wanted to be a bit more adventurous for this project. 

In fact what I'm making here will be for Lucy at Attic24, she asked for help in her blog to make buntings for Yarndale and I immediately said I would love to help! 

Probably in the end I will send her a batch of these colorful triangules and another of my own colors. 

He incrementado mis lanas y esta vez he cogido colores vivos y brillantes, la verdad es que yo me suelo decantar siempre por colores pastel o suaves pero quería probar suerte con estos colores diferentes para este proyecto. 

En realidad lo que estoy haciendo aquí sera para Lucy de Attic24, ella pidió ayuda en su blog para hacer banderines para Yarndale y yo en seguida me uní al proyecto !

Quizas al final le envie dos lotes, uno con estos de vivos colores y otro con mis colores. 

And finally, yes, you are seeing double ?? but not really. My old shawl is turning into a new shawl. I am undoing the shawl and making it again. 
This time with 8Vs instead of 7 as the original pattern says, and I'm also increasing the length by 6 more rows. . . 

Y finalmente, si, estais viendo doble ?? no realmente. Mi antiguo chal será uno nuevo. Lo estoy deshaciendo y haciendo uno nuevo.
Esta vez estoy haciendo 8 Vs en lugar de 7 como decía el patrón original, y también voy a incrementar 6 vueltas el largo . . .

Fabric Pin Cushion TUTORIAL

I have been a busy bee crafting, specially over the weekend. I will show you all is going on around here in another post. I really cannot blog at the same speed as life happens, 
I dont know how some bloggers can blog nearly everything they get to make. Just the pictures take forever to make them nicer (mind you I take mine with a mobile phone, I will have to ask Santa for a good proper camera at Christmas . . . )

Ok, finally I can bring you how I make these pin cushions. These are all over blogland, but I have not seen a blog tutorial as yet, so there you go.

He estado muy ocupada haciendo varias cosas, especialmente el fin de semana. Os enseñare todo en otra entrada. Yo no se como hacen algunas blogueras, pero yo no puedo bloguear todo lo que hago, no me da tiempo. Solo el organizar las fotos me lleva mucho tiempo (pero claro mis fotos son hechas con móvil y necesita mucho retoque para que queden medianamente presentables, le voy a pedir a los Reyes una cámara nueva en Navidad, a ver si cae la breva)

Finalmente os he podido traer el tutorial de como hago yo estos alfileteros. Los habreis visto por muchos blogs, pero yo aun no he visto un tutorial en fotos de como hacerlos, asi que aqui lo tenéis

You will need:

• 2 fabrics of your choice (contrasting, matching or just the same fabric is up to you)
• Fabric erasable Pen or marker
• Scissors
• machine sewing thread (I have used DMC) and sewing machine (you can also do it by hand though)
• embroidery thread
• 2 buttons (I forgot this when I made the picture)

Necesitareis:

• 2 trozos de tela de vuestra elección (que contrasten, que peguen o la misma tela, lo que mas os guste)
• Boligrafo de tinta soluble especial para tela
• Tijeras
• Hilo para maquina de coser y maquina de coser (aunque como es pequeño también se puede coser a mano)
• Hilo de bordar (yo he usado DMC)
• 2 botones (aunque me olvide de ponerlos al hacer la foto)

Now, let me tell you about my latest discovery in blogland. This pen pictured above is called Frixion by Pilot and it costed me 2.5 Euros in the One Euro Store.
And it is magic !!!
You mark the fabric, iron over and ink magically disappears !!! It is just great for embroidery, marking fabrics, etc.

Ahora, dejadme contaros mi ultimo descubrimiento en el mundo de los blogs. Este boli de la foto de arriba se llama Frixion y es de Pilot. Me costo 2.5 Euros y lo compre en los chinos, pero seguro que lo venden en papelerias, etc (aunque yo aun no lo he visto)
Es magico!!
Pintas la tela, planchas por encima y la tinta desaparece como por arte de magia !! Es genial para bordar sobre un dibujo, marcar tela, etc.

Let's make the pattern for the pin cushion. I used this terracota plate, depending on the diameter of the circle you use the pin cushion will be smaller or bigger. You can use plates, cups, anything that is round.

Hagamos el patron para el alfiletero. Yo use este plato de barro, depende del diametro del circulo que uses el alfiletero sera ms grande o mas pequeño. Puedes usar cualquier objeto redondo, platos, tazas, etc.

Cut the drawing you just made. I used these scissors to stop the fabric from fraying. Leave a border (1/4 of an inch is enough) as you will be sewing right on the pen mark.

Cortar el circulo que acabais de hacer. Yo use estas tijeras para evitar que se me deshilache la tela. Deja un borde (con medio centimetro vale) ya que coseras justo sobre el dibujo con boli.



You will need 2 circles like this, one for the top and another for the bottom, with the fabrics of your choice. Place the 2 fabrics with right sides facing each other. I have used these Lecien fabrics I showed here. 

Necesitaras 2 círculos de tela, uno para la parte de arriba y otro para la parte de abajo.  Poner las dos telas juntas para coserlas, el derecho con el derecho. Yo he usado estas telas de Lecien que os enseñe aquí.

Pin them together to secure them while machine sewing

Pon alfileres para que no se muevan mientras los coses.

Now go to the sewing machine and stitch together.

Ahora coselos a maquina.

Make sure you leave a gap to turn it inside out and introduce the filling. 

Asegurate de dejar un trozo sin coser para darle la vuelta e introducir el relleno.

Iron over it . . . see ?? the ink is gone !!

Planchalo . . .veis ?? la tinta ha desaparecido !!

Turn it inside out, it should look like this (picture below)

Dale la vuelta, y deber quedar como la foto de abajo

Ooops !! this picture below came out horrible !! Sorry . . . 

Ay, ay, ay !! esta foto de abajo salió horrible !! Perdón . . .

Iron over it to make it nice . . .

Planchalo de nuevo, al darle la vuelta se vuelve a arrugar . . .



Fill it with lots of pillow filling, or anything you normally use for cushions, pillows, soft toys, etc

Rellenalo con relleno sintetico para almohadas o cojines, o algodón del de toda la vida

 When you are happy with its fluffiness then close the opening you left before, hand stitch it to close it.

Cuando tengas el relleno que te gusta, da unas puntadas a mano para cerrar el agujero por donde hemos rellenado.



Take now the embroidery thread, I use 4 strands of thread.  
Now find the centre of the cushion.

Ahora enhebra la aguja con hilo de bordar (el de punto de cruz). Yo he usado 4 hebras.
Pincha en el centro del alfiletero.

Take the needle back from below and enter it again from above. You will have created a 'petal' or section , pull tight and repeat until you have about 8 petals or sections (this depends on the size of the cushion and your taste). 

Coge la aguja por abajo y vuelve a meterla por arriba. Habrás creado un pétalo o sección, tira del hilo para marcar el pétalo y repite esta operación hasta que tengas 8 'petalos' o secciones (depende del tamaño del alfiletero y de tu gusto)

Now find a button for the top . . . 

Ahora busca un botón para la parte de arriba. . .

And another for the bottom. . . 

Y otro para la parte de abajo . . .

Remove the buttons and enter a needle with the thread of choice to sew the buttons.

Aparta los botones y mete una aguja con el hilo con el que vayas a coser los botones.

Take the top button and introduce the needle with threat at this point, go through the cushion all the way to the button and enter the needle through the top button too. 

Luego pasa el botón de arriba por la aguja y a través del alfiletero y coge al mismo tiempo el botón de abajo. Si los haces coincidir es mas fácil coser los dos al mismo tiempo. 

Continue like this until the 2 buttons are secured. Fasten off and secure de thread before cutting it when you are finished. 

Continua cosiendo los botones hasta que esten asegurados. Remata y corta el hilo

and we have these beautiful pin cushions !!!

y tenemos nuestro precioso alfiletero !!

You can also make tiny ones and adorn hair bands or a brooch or an ornament for a bag, anything really, it only depends on the size you make it. 

If you are into crochet it is the same method, just make 2 crochet flat circles and then follow the same process as in here.

También podeis hacer pequeñitos y usarlos para adornar gomas de pelo, o diademas, o bolsos, cualquier cosa, solo depende de que tamaño lo hagáis y le podéis dar un uso u otro. 

Si os gusta el crochet, es el mismo metodo, hacéis dos círculos planos en ganchillo y seguis los mismos pasos que para este de aqui.
