Fabric Pin Cushion TUTORIAL

Hello !!
I have been a busy bee crafting, specially over the weekend. I will show you all is going on around here in another post. I really cannot blog at the same speed as life happens, 
I dont know how some bloggers can blog nearly everything they get to make. Just the pictures take forever to make them nicer (mind you I take mine with a mobile phone, I will have to ask Santa for a good proper camera at Christmas . . . )

Ok, finally I can bring you how I make these pin cushions. These are all over blogland, but I have not seen a blog tutorial as yet, so there you go.

He estado muy ocupada haciendo varias cosas, especialmente el fin de semana. Os enseñare todo en otra entrada. Yo no se como hacen algunas blogueras, pero yo no puedo bloguear todo lo que hago, no me da tiempo. Solo el organizar las fotos me lleva mucho tiempo (pero claro mis fotos son hechas con móvil y necesita mucho retoque para que queden medianamente presentables, le voy a pedir a los Reyes una cámara nueva en Navidad, a ver si cae la breva)

Finalmente os he podido traer el tutorial de como hago yo estos alfileteros. Los habreis visto por muchos blogs, pero yo aun no he visto un tutorial en fotos de como hacerlos, asi que aqui lo tenéis

You will need:

• 2 fabrics of your choice (contrasting, matching or just the same fabric is up to you)
• Fabric erasable Pen or marker
• Scissors
• machine sewing thread (I have used DMC) and sewing machine (you can also do it by hand though)
• embroidery thread
• 2 buttons (I forgot this when I made the picture)

Necesitareis:

• 2 trozos de tela de vuestra elección (que contrasten, que peguen o la misma tela, lo que mas os guste)
• Boligrafo de tinta soluble especial para tela
• Tijeras
• Hilo para maquina de coser y maquina de coser (aunque como es pequeño también se puede coser a mano)
• Hilo de bordar (yo he usado DMC)
• 2 botones (aunque me olvide de ponerlos al hacer la foto)

Now, let me tell you about my latest discovery in blogland. This pen pictured above is called Frixion by Pilot and it costed me 2.5 Euros in the One Euro Store.
And it is magic !!!
You mark the fabric, iron over and ink magically disappears !!! It is just great for embroidery, marking fabrics, etc.

Ahora, dejadme contaros mi ultimo descubrimiento en el mundo de los blogs. Este boli de la foto de arriba se llama Frixion y es de Pilot. Me costo 2.5 Euros y lo compre en los chinos, pero seguro que lo venden en papelerias, etc (aunque yo aun no lo he visto)
Es magico!!
Pintas la tela, planchas por encima y la tinta desaparece como por arte de magia !! Es genial para bordar sobre un dibujo, marcar tela, etc.

Let's make the pattern for the pin cushion. I used this terracota plate, depending on the diameter of the circle you use the pin cushion will be smaller or bigger. You can use plates, cups, anything that is round.

Hagamos el patron para el alfiletero. Yo use este plato de barro, depende del diametro del circulo que uses el alfiletero sera ms grande o mas pequeño. Puedes usar cualquier objeto redondo, platos, tazas, etc.

Cut the drawing you just made. I used these scissors to stop the fabric from fraying. Leave a border (1/4 of an inch is enough) as you will be sewing right on the pen mark.

Cortar el circulo que acabais de hacer. Yo use estas tijeras para evitar que se me deshilache la tela. Deja un borde (con medio centimetro vale) ya que coseras justo sobre el dibujo con boli.



You will need 2 circles like this, one for the top and another for the bottom, with the fabrics of your choice. Place the 2 fabrics with right sides facing each other. I have used these Lecien fabrics I showed here. 

Necesitaras 2 círculos de tela, uno para la parte de arriba y otro para la parte de abajo.  Poner las dos telas juntas para coserlas, el derecho con el derecho. Yo he usado estas telas de Lecien que os enseñe aquí.

Pin them together to secure them while machine sewing

Pon alfileres para que no se muevan mientras los coses.

Now go to the sewing machine and stitch together.

Ahora coselos a maquina.

Make sure you leave a gap to turn it inside out and introduce the filling. 

Asegurate de dejar un trozo sin coser para darle la vuelta e introducir el relleno.

Iron over it . . . see ?? the ink is gone !!

Planchalo . . .veis ?? la tinta ha desaparecido !!

Turn it inside out, it should look like this (picture below)

Dale la vuelta, y deber quedar como la foto de abajo

Ooops !! this picture below came out horrible !! Sorry . . . 

Ay, ay, ay !! esta foto de abajo salió horrible !! Perdón . . .

Iron over it to make it nice . . .

Planchalo de nuevo, al darle la vuelta se vuelve a arrugar . . .



Fill it with lots of pillow filling, or anything you normally use for cushions, pillows, soft toys, etc

Rellenalo con relleno sintetico para almohadas o cojines, o algodón del de toda la vida

 When you are happy with its fluffiness then close the opening you left before, hand stitch it to close it.

Cuando tengas el relleno que te gusta, da unas puntadas a mano para cerrar el agujero por donde hemos rellenado.



Take now the embroidery thread, I use 4 strands of thread.  
Now find the centre of the cushion.

Ahora enhebra la aguja con hilo de bordar (el de punto de cruz). Yo he usado 4 hebras.
Pincha en el centro del alfiletero.

Take the needle back from below and enter it again from above. You will have created a 'petal' or section , pull tight and repeat until you have about 8 petals or sections (this depends on the size of the cushion and your taste). 

Coge la aguja por abajo y vuelve a meterla por arriba. Habrás creado un pétalo o sección, tira del hilo para marcar el pétalo y repite esta operación hasta que tengas 8 'petalos' o secciones (depende del tamaño del alfiletero y de tu gusto)

Now find a button for the top . . . 

Ahora busca un botón para la parte de arriba. . .

And another for the bottom. . . 

Y otro para la parte de abajo . . .

Remove the buttons and enter a needle with the thread of choice to sew the buttons.

Aparta los botones y mete una aguja con el hilo con el que vayas a coser los botones.

Take the top button and introduce the needle with threat at this point, go through the cushion all the way to the button and enter the needle through the top button too. 

Luego pasa el botón de arriba por la aguja y a través del alfiletero y coge al mismo tiempo el botón de abajo. Si los haces coincidir es mas fácil coser los dos al mismo tiempo. 

Continue like this until the 2 buttons are secured. Fasten off and secure de thread before cutting it when you are finished. 

Continua cosiendo los botones hasta que esten asegurados. Remata y corta el hilo

and we have these beautiful pin cushions !!!

y tenemos nuestro precioso alfiletero !!

You can also make tiny ones and adorn hair bands or a brooch or an ornament for a bag, anything really, it only depends on the size you make it. 

If you are into crochet it is the same method, just make 2 crochet flat circles and then follow the same process as in here.

También podeis hacer pequeñitos y usarlos para adornar gomas de pelo, o diademas, o bolsos, cualquier cosa, solo depende de que tamaño lo hagáis y le podéis dar un uso u otro. 

Si os gusta el crochet, es el mismo metodo, hacéis dos círculos planos en ganchillo y seguis los mismos pasos que para este de aqui.

Nido de Abeja

A while ago in this post I showed you a little bit of a picture, well this was it !!

No, I didn't make these . . . my mum did, and these dresses have at least 37 yrs, 

well some of them do. . . They are in fact my childhood dresses. I just love the embroidery, all by hand.

Hace tiempo en esta entrada os enseñe un trocito de una foto, bien pues esto es !!

No, esto no lo he hecho yo. . . sino mi madre. Algunos de estos vestidos tienen 37 años . . . 

Son los vestidos de mi niñez. Me encanta el bordado que llevan, es todo hecho a mano. 

My mum and my aunt used to make dresses and most cloths for myself and my cousin and these dresses were made for special occasions, Sundays, etc (yes, we had a time were we had a Sunday dress). 

Mi madre y mi tia nos hacían estos vestidos y la mayoría de la ropa a mi y a mi prima y estos vestidos eran para ocasiones especiales, Domingos, etc (en aquella época teníamos lo que se llamaba 'el vestido de los Domingos)

In Spanish this type of embroidery is called Nido de Abeja, which literally means Beehive. My mum and aunt used to see dresses in the shop windows and kept the design in their head (there were no digital cameras or mobile phones back then) and then just made the dress. 

I'm hoping to learn  little bit at least of this embroidery from my mum and I think it can be given a modern or contemporary twist. . .

En España este tipo de bordado se llama de Nido de Abeja. Mi madre y mi tia solían verlos en los escaparates de las tiendas y se quedaban con el diseño en la cabeza (no había cámaras digitales ni teléfonos móviles entonces) y luego hacían el vestido. 

Espero aprender de mi madre este tipo de bordado y creo que se le puede dar un giro moderno o contemporáneo . . . 

This one above, I wore it when I was 2 yrs old . . .

Este de arriba, lo llevaba cuando tenia 2 años . . . 

I must have been around 7 when I wore this dress, it was made for my cousin's first communion.

Creo que tenia 7 años cuando llevaba este vestido que fue hecho para que lo llevara en la primera comunión de mis primos. 

And this one was made for my own first communion, well I wore my traditional dress and then late in the afternoon in case I wanted to change my mum had this ready for me. . .

Y este me lo hizo mi madre para el día de mi comunión, bueno lleve mi vestido de comunión y este era para mas tarde cuando me cansara del vestido tradicional. . . 

She made much more dresses in other colours and with butterflies, etc but she gave them away to relatives. 

Me hizo mas vestidos en otros colores, pero se los dio a familiares y perdimos el rastro de los vestidos, estos son los que aun conservamos . . .

And, do you still keep your childhood dresses ??

Hello !! And thanks for all the sweet comments in my previous posts and for reading me. 

I dont know about you but I just LOVE reading posts of the blogs I follow and it makes me happy when I see a new post !! 

Here I got with mine. 

Today I want to share with you my first sewing project. I made this last year, around March 2012 but I did not have a blog yet. 

I got interested in felt at the time and saw this project in a super-cute blog by Sarah, Paper and String. She has several felt tutorials, and they are very well explained. 

At the time I did not have a clue on how to sew a zipper and a little bit scared of it too. This project got me over that zipper fear and it came out really cute too !! You can find the tutorial here. 

I hope you give it a try too, there is even a Felt Purse Flickr Group !!

Hola ! Gracias a todas por los comentarios que me habéis dejado en las entradas anteriores y por leerme !!

Supongo que a vosotras os pasa igual, pero a mi me ENCANTA leer nuevas entradas de los blogs que sigo y me pongo contenta cuando veo una entrada nueva !!

Esta es mi entrada de hoy. 

Quiero compartir con vosotras mi primer proyecto de costura. Lo hice el año pasado, en Marzo 2012 pero aun no tenia un blog para compartirlo. 

Me empece a interesar por el fieltro y vi este proyecto tan mono en este bonito blog de Sarah, Paper and String. Hay varios tutoriales para hacer cosas con fieltro y esta muy bien explicado. 

Tampoco tenia ni idea de como coser una cremallera y ademas me daba algo de respeto, lo veia dificilisimo. Pero este tutorial me enseño a poner la cremallera y atreverme con otros proyectos mas tarde. Que os parece ??.

Stash-Busting for Mother's Day

Dear readers, 

Wow ! it seems like ages I don't blog, but it's been a week, and that is ages to me. 
Well there was all sort of things, travelling for work, my 2 children have been sick (with a bad cold, throat infection) since Friday last week, a trip to ER with my daughter at night (nothing serious but she had had temperature for 3 days and she got a nasty rash all over that night) and we just felt it had to be checked out. 

Now, that was a bit of a nervous trip for me. My baby was sleeping and so we decided my husband stayed with him and I went to hospital with my daughter. Something you dont know yet about me is that I am not a confident driver and I had never before driven at night and the motorway seems to be still a challenge for me. I do take it but just to go 2 exits further (where the Supermarket is, etc). 
The hospital is only 5 mins away from where we live, but if I took the motorway and so I did. 
It may seem silly but that was a challenge for me. 

In the end everything was fine we made it to the hospital and back home, and the pediatrician said that it might have been a rash provoked by the infection in the throat or else allergy to the antibiotics she was on. She changed the antibiotics to a different one and my daughter has improved greatly now. 
And the whole experience must have not been too bad as she wanted to go to hospital again the night after. . . So all in all, the lack of sleep, trying to catch up with work, children needing more attention, etc 
I barely got chance to check out other blogs, which I did but in very small doses and I neglected mine due to lack to energy. 


But now everything is kind of getting back to normality and routine (which I love, I love routine. . . ) 
Today is Mother's Day in Spain (the first Sunday of May) and I managed to squeeze in some crafty time between Friday night and last night and made my mum these two cuties. 

Queridas Lectoras, 

Madre Mia ! Parece que llevo una eternidad sin acercarme por mi blog, aunque solo ha sido una semana, pero es mucho tiempo para mi.

Hahabido de todo esta semana, viaje por trabajo, mis 2 peques malitos (con un mal resfriado y placas en la garganta) desde el viernes de la semana psada, un viaje a Urgencias con mi hija por la noche (nada serio pero llevaba 3 dias con fiebre y la salio un sarpullido que no nos gustaba ) y pensamos que era merjor que la viera el medico.

Ese fue un viaje con una dosis de nervios para mi. Mi bebe estaba durmiendo asi que decidimos que mi marido se quedaba con el y yo llevaba a la niña al hospital. Algo que aun no sabeis de mi es que no soy una conductora segura de mi misma, y nunca habia conducido de noche, sola y en la autovia y fue un reto para mi. Si, tomo la autovia a veces pero solo para ir dos salidas mas alla (que es donde esta el Super). El hospital solo esta a 5 mins de mi casa por la autovia, asi que alla que fui yo.
Puede que os parezca una tontería pero para mi fue un reto. . .

Al final todo fue bien, llegamos al hospital y volvimos a casa y el pediatra dijo que podia ser un sarpullido ocasionado por la misma infeccion o bien una alergia a los antibioticos. Asi que me cambio el antiobiotico por otro y mi hija ha mejorado muchisimo.

La experiencia no ha debido ser tan mala para ella ya que queria ir al hospital de nueva la noche siguiente !!
Todo junto, la falta de sueño, intentar ponerme al dia con el trabajo, los niños necesitando mas atencion, etc casi no he tenido tiempo de mirar otros blogs, lo cual he hecho pero en pequeñas dosis y abandone mi blog por falta de energia.

Todo esta volviendo a la normalidad y rutina (me encanta la rutina . . .)

Hoy es el Dia de la Madre en España (el primer Domingo de Mayo) y entre el viernes y ayer por la  noche conseguí hacer estas monadas para mi madre...

A pin cushion like the one I made when I started blogging and I will make a tutorial of how to make it as I have to make another one for me. They are really easy to make and quick too. . . 

And a crocheted mobile phone cover, isn't it cute ? I have been thinking of making one like this for a while but the final inspiration came about 2 weeks ago from Deb's blog (A World of Imagination).
She made cute tissue covers she thought they would also be good as mobile phone covers. 

I first made the cream one for myself as a test last week and then the pink one is for my mum. 

Un alfiletero como el que hice cuando empece el blog y del cual haré un tutorial de como hacerlo ya que tengo que hacer otro para mi. Son muy fáciles y rápidos de hacer . . .

Y también una funda para móvil hecha a ganchillo, no es preciosa ? He querido hacer una de estas por algún tiempo pero la inspiración final vino hace unas 2 semanas desde el Blog de Deb (A World of Imagination).
Ella hizo fundas para pañuelos de papel o tisis pero también pensó que serian buenas para móviles.

Primero hize la de color crema para mi como prueba la semana pasada y luego la rosa es para mi madre.

The pattern for the cover itself is really easy and I followed hers. I tried to change the SC (uk DC) for             HDC (uk HTC) but I did not like the result and so I stuck to the original pattern. For the border I also followed her pattern. 

For the flower, I did not have the book she mentions and I tried to put a flower that I'm using for my daughters blanket but it did not look right. So I made it up. Again, although I made a few of the flowers I did not write the pattern so I think I might write a tutorial with the pattern, coming soon. 

For the leaf, I used the leaf from the May Roses tutorial at Attic 24 (a blog of reference for me).
One day I will also use her roses for some project as they are just sooo cute. . .

So, to all the mothers that live in Spain: Happy Mother's Day !! And to the rest Happy Day and Week too wherever you are !! 

El patron para la funda es muy facil y segui el patron de Deb. Intente cambiar el punto bajo por uno medio alto pero no me gusto el resultado así que seguí el patrón original. Para el borde también seguí su patrón.

Para la flor, no tengo el libro que ella menciona e intente poner una de las flores que estoy usando para la manta de mi hija pero no quedaba bien. Así que me invente una flor. De nuevo, aunque hize algunas flores no escribí el patrón  así que creo que haré un tutorial de como hacerla, aunque es muy sencilla.

Para las hojas use la del tutorial de las May Roses de Attic 24 (un blog de referencia para mi)
Un dia usare las rosas para algún proyecto porque me encantan . . .

Así que a todas las madres de España: Feliz Día de la Madre !!! y al resto Feliz Dia y Feliz Semana donde quiera que estéis !!
