Stash-Busting (Crocheting) in the park . . .

Hola !

On Sunday we went to the park with the kids and it was just the perfect. The sun was perfect, the temperature perfect, there were very, very few people at the park, it was quiet, calm and so it was perfect for crocheting. 

El Domingo fuimos al parque con los peques y fue perfecto. El sol era perfecto, la temperatura perfecta,  casi nadie en el parque. . . era tranquilo y silencioso y perfecto para hacer ganchillo.

I'm finally making a shawl with the yarns I got in Lisbon. . . the color is pearl grey
Estoy haciendo un chal con las lanas que compre en Lisboa. . .en un gris perla

Two Bloggers Meet in Lisbon !!

Hola a todas !
First of all I want to give a huge THANK YOU to all that have read me, left a comment and followed me ! 

Primero quiero decir GRACIAS a todas las que me leéis, las que habéis dejado algún comentario y me habéis seguido !

And also a huge WELCOME to all my new followers. And I want to take this chance too to invite you all to follow me with Bloglovin. As you might all know by now that Google reader is going out the window and you might loose track of the blogs you are following if you don't follow your current favourite blogs through another reader. 

También dar una gran BIENVENIDA a mis nuevas seguidoras. Me gustaría aprovechar esta oportunidad para invitaros a que me sigáis con Bloglovin. Seguro que ya sabéis que Google reader va a desaparecer y que podéis perder el rastro de los blogs que seguís si no los seguís a través de otro lector que no sea Google.
Ok, now we go to Lisbon. 
Ahora vamos a Lisboa. 

This below is me (the one on the right with black coat) !! And the lovely lady beside me (on the left) is Ana from AnaLoveCraft (visit her at her blog she makes lovely things of crochet, sewing, etc).

Esta de abajo soy yo (la de la derecha con abrigo negro) !! Y la guapa y simpática señora a la izquierda es Ana de AnaLoveCraft (visita su blog, seguro que os gustara, hace cosas preciosas de ganchillo, costura, etc)

Isn't blogging a great thing ? 

I first came across Ana when she left a comment in this post telling me she had just bought the same vinyl fabric. And so we exchanged some emails after that. 

La primera vez que conocí a Ana fue cuando dejo un comentario en esta noticia mía.

I travel to Lisbon a couple of times a year for work and when I told Ana we both agreed we should meet and cross our virtual correspondance into real life.

Voy a Lisboa unas dos veces al año por trabajo y cuando se lo dije a Ana nos pusimos de acuerdo que debíamos conocernos y pasar de lo virtual al real.

Ana was sooo nice and I felt like I knew her for ages.
Ana es majisima y senti como si la conociera de mucho tiempo.

We met in the Chiado area of Lisbon near all the crafts, fabrics and yarn shops as it could not be otherwise.
Quedamos en la zona del Chiado de Lisboa, cerca de las tiendas de lanas, telas y mercerias como no podia ser de otra manera.

We only had one hour before the shops closed and so we rushed into many of them.
Solo teníamos una hora antes de que cerraran las tiendas así que fuimos con un poco de prisa.

And I got these yarns. I did not really need to buy any yarns as I had already WIPs to finish and the choice and colours were so many that I was a bit overwhelmed by it all. I got all these (nearly 1 kg (8 skeins of over 100grs each) ) for less than 30 Euros  !

Yo compre estas lanas. La verdad es que no necesitaba en este momento ya que tengo varios proyectos sin terminar pero tenían tantas y de colores tan bonitos que no sabia ni por donde empezar. Todas estas que son casi 1Kg (8 madejas de mas de 100grs cada una) me costaron menos de 30 euros !

I could not think straight and just bought these colours. One thing I was thinking of was I wanted to make a scarf and hat for my daughter and something for me (maybe a cowl or a neck or a scarf or shawl).

No podia pensar y me decidi por estos colores. Una cosa que si que pensé es que quería hacer una bufanda y gorrito para mi hija y alguna cosa para mi (no sabia si seria un cuello, bufanda, chal. . .). 

Then we went for a true Portuguese dinner to this lovely restaurant out in her favourite Lisbon town, Belhem.

Luego fuimos a cenar a este restaurante de gastronomia Portuguesa con unas vistas maravillosas del pueblo favorito de Ana en Lisboa, Belem.

It was so much fun. We talked a lot, and laughed and exchanged views about blogging and crafting, shared tips too, etc.

Lo pasamos genial. Hablamos. Mucho. Reimos, y compartimos puntos de visto sobre tener un blog y sobre las cosas que hacemos (ganchillo, costura, etc).



Ana made this for me as a gift, isn't it lovely ?

Ana me hizo este neceser como regalo, no os parece precioso ?

All in all it was a great experience and we will surely meet again, somewhere.
I just love blogging for that, it makes it all worthy!

Fue una gran experiencia y seguramente la repetiremos, en algún lugar.
Me encanta bloguear, aunque solo sea por momentos como ese, ha merecido la pena !

Stash-Busting Update and Spring in our home

How is your week going ?

Como va vuestra semana ?

It's been so hot this week in Madrid it's not funny ! I know it is nice for most of you, but I would much prefer a smoother entry into the summer as in Madrid summer can be long and really, really hot !! (specially for someone that does not like heat like me) 

Aqui en Madrid esta haciendo mucho calor y la verdad es que yo prefiero que hubiera una entrada mas suave al verano, que luego en Madrid es bastante duro (sobre todo para alguien a quien no le gusta el calor como a mi)

I have been up to a lot lately but unfortunately not much crafting. A lot of work (real life) in the office and well last night just because my connection to the work server was not working I had to stop working and make a little stash-busting, just made 1 square last night  as it was already very late. 

He estado muy ocupada las 3 ultimas semanas pero desafortunadamente no ha sido haciendo ganchillo ni cosiendo. Tengo un periodo de mucho trabajo y bueno anoche como no me podía conectar al servidor del trabajo tuve que parar de trabajar y me puse a hacer un cuadradito de ganchillo para la manta de arriba. 

Also I had to travel to Lisbon for work and I met a friendly Portuguese blogger,  we are preparing a post about that special meeting so stay tuned!

También he estado en Lisboa por trabajo y allí conocí a una bloguera  Portuguesa muy simpática, estamos preparando una noticia sobre este encuentro especial así que seguir conectadas !

I showed you this blanket before but now Im up to 158 squares finished 21 of those are flowers.

Os enseñe esta manta aquí, pero ahora he avanzado un poquito mas y voy por 158 cuadrados de los cuales 21 son flores.  

I still have not finished the blanket and I'm running out of the cream yarn (again. . . I already bought extra yarn for this project 3 times !)

Aun no esta terminada y me queda muy poquita lana beige (de nuevo . . . ya he tenido que ir a compra lana para esta manta 3 veces !) 

Anyway I'm loving this project and how is looking but it seems far from finished, not sure. . . maybe it will be a lap-blanket instead of a full blanket in the end. . . we will see. . . 

La verdad es que me esta encantando hacer esta manta y como esta quedando (sobre todo cuando la veo de lejos y los colores se funden) pero esta lejos de estar terminada, no se , igual se queda en manita en lugar de manta . . . ya veremos . . .

The tulips I planted back in October, when I still did not have a blog are now blossoming . . . so that is the sign that spring has finally arrived into my household . . . 

Los tulipanes que plante en Octubre, cuando aun  no tenia un blog, acaban de florecer . . . eso es señal de que la primavera ha llegado finalmente a nuestro hogar . . .

Mending Jeans: TUTORIAL

Hello ! My daughter's jeans had been on the mending 'pile'  for too long now . . . When I received The Simple Life fabric I just thought it would be so much fun to use this fabric for a little project like this. Of course I would only use scraps as this fabric is too precious and I needed it  to make this little chair pad for my daughter also.

Los vaqueros de mi hija necesitaban un arreglito . . .Cuando recibí las telas de The Simple Life pensé que quedaría divertido arreglarlos usando estas telas. Claro solo iba a usar restos ya que necesitaba la tela para hacer  este cojín, también para mi hija. 

I have not really liked any mending pads in the shops. 

No me gustaban los parches que había en las tiendas.

If finding mending pads that are nice for children is difficult, just forget it when you look for something for adults !! 

Si encontrar parches bonitos para niños es difícil, imaginaos para adultos !

I have a pair of jeans that I love but last year they just wore out and have a few holes. . . ok, I know they might look trendy but I don't really feel I'm at that age where it looks cool anymore. . .if you know what I mean. . . 

and anyway I have never felt comfortable wearing trousers with holes on them. 

Bueno, pues yo tengo unos vaqueros que me gustan mucho pero el año pasado se me hizo un agujero. . . para algunas puede parecer que es ir a la moda pero no es realmente mi estilo, ni tengo la edad para llevar vaqueros rotos. . . bueno yo al menos no me siento cómoda . . .

Anyway I just did this to them , so I could wore them again. . . 

Así que hice esto para poder ponermelos otra vez. 

I did this with felt and it worked. Now, I would not recommend to use felt as jeans are washed in the washing machine and felt it wears really badly, well, I had worn mine for more than a year now and it is now that I can see or feel I should replace it. 

Lo hice con fieltro y funciono. Sin embargo no recomiendo que uséis fieltro para un proyecto así ya que los vaqueros se lavan a maquina y el fieltro no se lleva bien con los lavados a maquina .Aunque bueno para haberlos llevado durante un año, y lavado, etc no están tan mal, pero es ahora que veo que debería cambiarlo ya.

Here I go !! Please be kind, this is my first tutorial and it could be the last one ! 

Ahí voy ! Por favor ser amables, nunca antes he hecho un tutorial, este es el primero y podría ser el ultimo !

You will need : different fabric scraps

                         embroidery thread of the colour of your choice, 

                           in my case I'm using DMC 321

                         viseline paper for appliqué

                         iron

                         needle 

Necesitareis: trocitos diferentes de tela

                       hilo de bordar (del de punto de cruz, en mi caso he usado DMC 321)

                      fiselina (es un papel/entretela de doble cara que se usa para aplicaciones)

                      plancha

                        aguja

First draw the shape on paper and make a pattern for the appliqué, in my case I made a heart and then, cut it. 

Primero dibujar la forma en un papel y haz el patrón para la aplicación, en mi caso he hecho un corazón y  luego lo cortas. 

If you want to make any embellishments to the appliqué, do this first . . . So I chose a little flower to make the heart prettier and stitched it to a corner of the fabric. . . 

Si quieres decorar la aplicación, ahora es el momento de hacerlo. . . antes de nada. Yo elegí una florecita para ponerla sobre el corazón y la cosí en una esquina de la tela. 

I used DMC thread, number 321.
Use hilo DMC 321.

Place the pattern on to the viseline paper, on the side that is not shiny and that is softer. Remember that if your pattern is not simetrical like the heart is, 

you will need to place the pattern with the wrong side facing the paper. So for instance if you are drawing the letter L you need to place it the other way around 

 , so that when you place the viseline on to the fabric it will look right. 

Pon el patron en la fiselina, por la cara que menos brilla y que es mas suave. Recuerda que si la forma que vas a utilizar no es simetrica como el corazon, 

tendrás que poner el patrón del revea. Por ejemplo si dibujas la letra L tendrás que ponerla al revés como si la estuvieras viendo por un espejo, de manera que

cuando pongas la fiselina en la tela tu motivo o letra quede el derecho.

Once you have drawn the pattern on to the viseline, cut it leaving a little edge. 

Una vez tengas el patrón dibujado corta dejando un margen en el papel. 

Place the viseline you have just cut on the the wrong side of the fabric of your choice. Fix with a not iron (no steam). 

Pon  la fiselina que acabas de cortar encima dela tela (en el reves de la tela). Fijala a la tela con la planca caliente (sin vapor). 

I fixed it to the fabric so that the little flower would be at the corner of the heart.

Yo la fije para que la florecita me cayera en una esquina. 

Once is fixed, allow to cool and cut the shape of the pattern this time exactly what the pattern is, not leaving any edge. 

Una vez que este fijada, déjala enfriar y corta el motivo por la linea que habías dibujado, sin dejar ningún margen esta vez. 

Peel the paper off the fabric and place on the are you want to cover in the jeans. Fix it with a hot iron (you have to put the iron on the a hot cloth covering the fabric, not directly on the fabric)

Now it is fixed on to the fabric you just have to secure it with the stitch of your choice. (I have used here backstitch and blanket stitch too)

Pela el papel de la tela y pon la tela sobre la parte de los vaqueros que quieres arreglar. Fijalo con la plancha caliente. Esta vez cubre la tela que vas a planchar con un trapo humedo para planchar sobre el trapo y no sobre

la tela directamente. 

Ahora que esta fijado a la tela solo tienes que asegurarlo con la puntada de tu elección. Yo he usado un pespunte en la flor y un festón en el corazón.

Day Out - Madrid Sierra

Hello !!

During the Easter break, on Saturday we went on an excursion with the kids, grandparents, uncle. . . 

and it was great ! We went to the north part of Madrid, about 50 kms from the city centre and up in the mountains. 

We visited the area around what is called the Valley of Lozoya.  Our first stop was Buitrago de Lozoya, where we spotted this cute playground with great views !

En Semana Santa, el Sábado fuimos de excursion con niños, abuelos, tio, etc y fue genial !! El destino elegido fue la sierra de Madrid, a unos 50 kms de la ciudad, en las montañas.

Visitamos la zona del Valle de Lozoya. Nuestra primera parada fue Buitrago de Lozoya, aunque visitamos varios pueblos.

Esta fue la primer vista, una parque para peques pero mirad que vistas tiene el parque!

This was a little church or chapel we found as we entered the village. 

Luego encontramos esta iglesia o capilla al entrar en el pueblo. 

Then as we turned the corner we found a cute little street with this  cute little shop . . .

Cuando dimos la vuelta a la esquina había una callecita con esta tienda tan mona . . .

Selling wooden toys . . .

Que vendia juguetes de madera . . . entre otras cosas.

And this cute hotel. . . . this type of hotels that are small, normally family run, in rural areas and in old buildings that preserve the rural feel are called Rural Hotels.

Y este bonito hotel rural . . .

This is the wall that surrounds this village, we did not go up as we wanted to move on to another place 

Y esta es la muralla que rodea el pueblo, no subimos arriba porque queríamos seguir la ruta y visitar otros sitios

We found cute little signs everywhere . . .
Encontramos señales como esta, de madera por todos los sitios . . .

Even the plant pots where cute . . .
Hasta los maceteros eran bonitos y rústicos . . .

We then headed for Rascafria . . .

Después fuimos a Rascafria . . .

And the last place was the best . . . a Chocolate Factory !! But a really small family run one, and the chocolate they make is totally natural. the only fat they use is Cocoa fat and they don't mix it with any other harmful fats or unhealthy fats. . . they are using their parents recipe and is the second generation running the factory and shop.  They were really helpful and nice to us. 

Y el últimos sitio fue el mejor . . . una Fabrica de Chocolate !! Pero una de estas familiares y pequeñas. El chocolate es natural, es decir, solo lleva manteca de cacao como grasa. Es la segunda generación la que lleva la fabrica y la tienda y fueron muy amables con nosotros.

A total treat . . . 

Una delicia . . . 

We could not resist and bought some chocolates . . . which were just 'delicious'

No pudimos resistir y compramos algunos chocolates . . . que estaban 'deliciosos'

This little stream of water runs though the village . . .

Este arroyo recorre el pueblo . . .

then we went to the Monastery of el Paular . . .just outside of Rascafria . .  . 

Después fuimos al Monasterio del Paular . . . a la salida de Rascafria . . .

And just beside the monastery there is a 5 * hotel if you fancy a total treat of a weekend . . . 

Y justo al lado del monasterio hay un hotel de 5* por si uno se quiere dar el capricho . . .

And then in the horizon we could see the snow in the mountains further north . . .

Y luego en el horizonte pudimos ver la nieve en las montañas que estaban mas al norte . . .

that was a great day out. . . the kids had a great time and so did we !!! 
fue un dia genial . . .los niños lo pasaron genial y nosotros también !!
