Rice Crispies Snack . . . and Christmas Mugs

About 2 weeks ago I got this 2 mugs for my children (they cute, aren't they ?), but I thought then it was a bit too early for that Christmas feeling so today I show you what a treat we did in that afternoon.

Hace unas 2 semanas compre estas tazas para mis niños, me parecen muy 'monas' y también hicimos un pequeño snack que mis peques adoran. Era todo muy 'navideño' pero

me parecía un poco pronto para empezar con la Navidad

This is a children snack (for that special afternoon) and it is something that your children can help you make as well  as there is no oven involved.

Los que hicimos es un 'tentempié'  (algo para una tarde especial, un capricho, digamos)

Ademas es algo que os vuestros hijos os pueden ayudar a hacer ya que no se hace en el horno. 

Mind you,  I have to hide them from my husband as he adores this little bitesize snacks too.

Eso si, los tengo que esconder de la vista de mi marido porque le encantan !

Here is how I make these (very, very easy): 

Ingredients: Rice Crispies (plain ones)

                  Chocolate (I used Lidl cooking, the ones that comes in brown wrapping) 

                  You can use milk chocolate or white as well. 

                  For dark chocolate I find Lidl one to be the best, 

                  even compared to the best  selling brands. 

                  Cupcakes cases (any size you want)

1. Melt the chocolate. This part is only to be done by adults (obviously) . 

If you have a microwave and want to use it, do so. I don't have one so I don't know how to melt chocolate in the microwave and so I use the traditional way 'Bain Marie' - you place a pan with hot water and a bowl over the water (if possible avoid the bowl touching the water as the chocolate can burn). 

2. Once the chocolate has melted, let it cool for 5 minutes, placing the bowl now on a surface and away from the hot water. 

3. Now the children can get involved. Pour rice crispies into the melted chocolate, and stir with a spoon. The more rice crispies you add the more little cases you will fill, and you will soon realize that a small amount of chocolate goes a long way in this. 

4. Fill the paper cases with spoonfuls of the mix, place them on a tray and put in the fridge. Allow to set for at least 20 mins. 

Done !!! 

I have seen other versions of these with golden syrup in it, but I think it makes them too sweet and less healthy, but if you like the idea you can put a teaspoon of golden syrup into the mixture at point 3 of the process. 

Modo de Hacerlos (muy, muy fácil):

Ingredientes: Rice Crispies (sin chocolate)

                  Chocolate (Yo uso el de Lidl para todos los postres, coberturas, etc el que       viene en un papel marron). Tambien se puede usar chocolate con leche o chocolate blanco según gustos.  

                  El chocolate de Lidl me parece muy bueno, incluso mejor que las marcas conocidas de chocolate de cobertura.  

                  Moldes (de magdalenas, bombones, según el tamaño que queráis hacer)

1. Funde el chocolate. Esta parte solo para adultos (obviamente) 

si tienes microondas, se puede fundir el chocolate allí. Yo no tengo microondas así que no se deciros como fundir chocolate y yo uso el método tradicional, el 'Baño Maria'. 
Pon un cazo con agua caliente y un bol encima del cazo. Intenta que el bol no toque el agua o al menos que el agua no hierva en el proceso. 

2. Una vez que el chocolate se ha derretido, dejalo enfriar durante 5 mins. Pon el bol fuera del cazo, en la encimera u otra superficie. 

3. Aqui los niños ya pueden colaborar. Vierte los cereales en el bol del chocolate derretido y mezcla con una cuchara. cuantos mas cereales, mas 'pastelitos' nos saldran. Ya veras que el chocolate da para mucho. 

4. Llena los moldes con cucharas  (yo uso dos cucharas para ayudarme a empujar la mezcla), ponlos en un plato o bandeja para luego meterlo en el frigorifico. Dejalo enfriar al menos 20 mins.

Crochet Hat with Flower

Hace unas 2 semanas compre este ovillo de lana. Queria hacerle un gorrito a mi hija y el color me parecio muy dulce y ademas abriga bastante.

About 2 weeks ago I bought this lovely yarn. I wanted to make a crochet hat to my daughter, I thought the colour was quite sweet and it is very warm as well.

Después de intentar conseguir el tamano adecuado asi como el patron con restos de lana que tenia por casa, me puse con el 'definitivo' gorro. 

After first trying out size and the pattern with another yarn I had from leftovers, I set myself to making the 'real' hat. 

Una vez terminado el gorro y contenta con el tamano y el resultado final, empeze a buscar una flor que le fuera y encontre esta flor en este bonito blog.

 
Once I finished the hat and was happy with the size and finished look, I started looking for a suitable flower, and I found this lovely flower in this lovely blog.

Finalmente le di el toque final con este boton en forma de corazon que tenia en casa y creo que el resultado es muy bonito, y  a mi hija le encanta su nuevo gorrito. 

Then I finished it with a heart shaped button I had at home and I think the result is lovely, and my daughter loves it.

He añadido finalmente a la selección original un rosa pálido (muy dulce) y un amarillo mostaza

I have added to the original choice of colors a very soft pink (quite sweet) and a mustard yellow

Y esto lo que va resultando hasta ahora. . . pero esto no es definitivo (o igual si), ya que estoy experimentando diferentes patrones con esta manta

And this is what the result is so far . . . now, this is not definite (or maybe it is) as I'm experimenting with this blanket

Round Granny Squares - New Blanket Proyect

Tengo debilidad por los llamados 'granny squares', que son esos cuadrados hechos de ganchillo con los que hice la manta para Marc. Así que después de ver algunas mantas hechas de estos cuadrados pero en redondo o forma hexagonal, este fin de semana he aprovechado un ratito que tenía para dedicarlo a un a misión: comprar lana para hacerle otra manta a mi hija Sofía.

I have to admit I have a weakness for granny squares. And this weekend as I had about an hour to myself, I went on a mission to get some beautiful yarn colours to make another blanket for my daughter Sofía. I have lately seen some of those blankets made out of round or hexagonal 'granny squares'.

Aún no he decidido como combinare los colores ni si los haré redondos, hexagonales o cuadrados, de momento esto es lo que va saliendo.

I haven't decided yet which way I will put the colours together, or if I will make round, hexagonal or square shapes. For the moment this is what came out of it.

Seguramente me llevara meses terminar esta manta, pero os iré enseñando los progresos que vaya haciendo. 

It will probably take me months to complete this blanket, but I will show you the work in progress as I crochet along.

iPad Sleeve / Funda para iPad

Hoy os enseño mi ultima creación en costura, es una funda para el iPad. 

El patron es el del ultimo SAL de Sweet Sixteen Craft Store pero luego la creatividad, cada una puso la suya. 

Este fue mi resultado, os gusta ?

Today I would like to show you my last sewing creation, it is an iPad sleeve cover. 

The pattern is from the last SAL of Sweet Sixteen Craft Store but then each of the participants added their own creativity and stamp on it. 

This is what I made out of it, do you like it ?  

Un cojin para Marc / A cushion for Marc

En Septiembre, al comienzo del curso teníamos que llevar un cojín para la guardería y decidi hacerle este a Marc con su nombre. 

In September, at the beginning of the school year they asked us at the creche to bring a cushion per child, so I decide to do this one for Marc with his name on it.

Lo hice enteramente con la maquina de coser pequeña, y mi madre tuve que ponerme la cremallera en su maquina porque en la mia no se podia.

I made this one with the little sewing machine, and my mum helped me with the zip as I could not sew it with my little machine. 

Los colores los elegí para que hicieran juego con la mantita y su banderín...

I chose the colors so that it matched the blanket and his bunting. . . 

El nombre lo puse con fieltro . . .

I made the name out of felt . . . 

 en el reverso puse una tela de estrellitas, muy mona. . . 

at the back a cute and sweet stars fabric . . .

Y como no podia ser de otra forma, debía tener una barquito y un banderín. . . 

And as it could not be any other way, it had to have a little boat and a bunting. . . 

Tengo el diseño ya hecho para hacerle uno similar a mi hija Sofia, cuando lo tenga os lo enseñare, os gusta este ?

I already have one designed for my daughter Sofia, as soon as I have it ready I will show it to you, what do you think of Marc's one ?

En un frio dia de invierno / On a cold winters day . . . Apple Pie

Que mejor que este pastel de manzana acompañado de un te o cafe al volver a casa después de un largo paseo en un día invernal. 

Me encantan los inviernos de Madrid: cielos abiertos y azules, un sol inmenso y frio... bastante frio, sobre todo, hoy.

My First Sewing Machine / Mi primera maquina de coser

Como os prometi aqui os pongo una foto de mi primer maquina de coser, esta que mi madre compro en la tienda de los chinos . . . bueno, pues la verdad es que hace solo lo que es el pespunte basico y con esta maquinita he hecho todo lo que habéis visto hasta ahora y alguna cosa mas que ya os pondré en fotos. Decidí comprarme ya una maquina mejor porque con esta se me limitaban mucho las posibilidades. 

As promised to you in my first post here is a picture of my first sewing machine, that one my mum bought in the One Pound shop (it did not cost one pound but around 15 pounds) ... well truth must be said, it does work well as everything you have seen in my blog up until now has been made with this little machine, and some other things I will show you soon. I decided to buy a better machine last month as this one here was limiting my creative possibilities but is good for simple projects. 

Pin cushion & Neddle Case / Alfiletero y Guardagujas

Como soy una aprendiza en esto de la costura, aqui os enseño lo que hice en el mes de Octubre a traves de los videos de Nairamkitty de  Living the Crafts. A mi sus videos me encantan ya que lo explica muy bien. 

Hice este alfiletero y este acerico a juego. Las telas son Tilda, que os parece ?

As I'm still an apprentice when it comes to sewing, I want to share with you the 2 projects I did with the videos of Nairamkitty from Living the Crafts. 
I love her videos as she explains very well how to make things.

Tarde de Magdalenas / Fairy Cakes Afternoon

Hemos tenido un fin de semana lluvioso en Madrid así que pasamos la tarde del sábado horneando unas deliciosas magdalenas con chocolate y unos confeti de decoración. Personalmente, prefiero las magdalenas a las cupcakes, por el topping que llevan, pero es cuestión de gustos. 

Con tiempo justo para que el chocolate se solidificara las dos manitas fueron ¡al ataque!

La verdad es que son deliciosas, a mis peques les encantan y para decir la verdad a nosotros, los padres, también. . . 

(La idea de guardar los moldes de esta forma tan vistosa en botes de cristal ha venido de la revista Ideal Home, queda bonito, que os parece ?)

It was a rainy weekend in Madrid so we we spent Saturday afternoon making fairy cakes, which I prefer to cupcakes. Then we topped them up with chocolate and a bit of sweet decoration. 

Soon after the chocolate topping had just time to set 2 little hands went to taste them. 

They are delicious, my kids love them and so do we to be honest.

(the cupcake storage idea in these glass jars is from Ideal Home Magazine, I thought it was a great way of displaying them, it looks nice, doesn't it ?)

Buntings / Banderines

 Simplemente me encantan ! Yo queria hacer algo personalizado para la habitacion de mi hija y en mis viajes por Europa (principalmente a Irlanda, Escocia y Francia) veia muchos banderines,  y en las revistas extranjeras de decoracion tambien los veia a veces los ponian por el jardin, otras en habitaciones de ninos y me encantaban, me parece que alegran cualquier ambiente.

I simply love them !  I wanted to make something personalized  for my daughter and in my travels in Europe (mainly Ireland, Scotland and France) I saw buntings everywhere, also in the foreign magazines I read (specially in Country Homes & Interiors, one of my favourites) they put buntings in gardens, in children bedrooms, everywhere and I think they give a festive look anywhere you put them and cheer up any room. 

Luego he hecho muchos para regalos de amigas y tengo mas en mente. Aqui os pongo uno que hice similar al de mi hija, pero este era para Elena.

Then I made lots for friends. Here is a sample of  one I made for Elena, the one for my daughter was very similar to this one. 

 Este era para mi peque, Marc, con motivos nauticos y haciendo juego con su mantita.

This other was for my little one, Marc, matching his granny square blanket.

Ahora me traigo uno entre manos algo diferente, y no lo puedo ensenar porque es para un regalo, pero en cuanto lo reciba la destinataria pondre una foto.

At the moment I'm doing one that is different to these all as I'm using a different fabric color combination, but I cannot show it to you until it has reached its destination.
